Hi all,
im sure someone can help me here. Ive booked QF31 from SYD-SIN not A380 but the 744. The Fare bucket is "O" and im looking to upgrade.. im fairly sure this is impossible due to the bucket but I have a HEAP of points to burn..

2 Questions If i may, 1) is the 744 that flies QF31 a new bird or upreaded interior/AVOD? secondly is it possible to upgrade with points on "o" fares?

I'm not sure if everyone can do this or if the offer from Qantas (recently) was targetted. But I upgraded JFK-SYD on a O class and was successful. Don't know about your other question or if there are business seats. Someone like TG or serfty would know pretty quick! Sorry :)

Thanks for the fast reply bud! I have checked the fare buckets and all are at "9's" so there shouldn't be any difficulty at this stage.

I cant believe i ballsed up and Booked the 744 rather than the A380 on that route! ah well.. always next time

N, O, Q and E fares are not usually able to be upgraded with points. For a limited period, Qantas has been inviting some people who have booked these ineligible fares to waitlist to use FF points to upgrade. So you "may" be able to do so. The best way to find out is to call Qantas FF and ask if they can add you to the upgrade waitlist.

All Qantas 747 aircraft have AVOD installed. They all have the same seating in First (when there is an F cabin), Business and Economy. The only difference is whether or not Premium Economy cabin is installed. QF31 usually sells Premium Economy, but its possible they may operate with a 3-class aircraft and sell some J seats as PE. But if paying for an O ticket, the economy cabin will be basically the same for all Qantas 744 aircraft.

The promo "finished" on June the 2nd - although the on-line upgrade request facility was not working for about 2 days before this. It did not appear to be targeted.

I am about to travel in J on the 388 - upgraded from an O class fare.

The upgrade was a shoe in - it was D/I/J 9 for the last week or two - I'd guess all/most requests were granted. FWIW, it is still D/I/J 8's ~2 hours before boarding.

Note that First class buckets went from 8 to 1 today

IF QF says no to a points upgrade you can ask Qantas to convert the fare from an "O" to an "S" and pay the difference in money. Once the new ticket issues you can then request a points upgrade via the normal channels.

You just have to do this at least a few days before your flights as the new ticket will take some time to issue. If you do this and it gets up to 3 or less days before your flight, phone Qantas to get them to put the upgrade request in manually.

Thanks NM.

Ill give them a call. Maya, VIP liaison in BNE may be able to help too I hope.

If it stays that way, especially in the days before each flight your chances are indeed good.

However, things can change so keep an eye out.

Could someone please check the availability on the following?

QF9 MEL-SIN June 13th, and QF10 SIN-MEL June 20th.

Your not wasting my time.. just seemed like a random place :P

maybe we should start a thread for people who wish to check fare buckets, it'd get mileage ;)

So Flight 1 - R0 F6 A5 J1 C1 D0 I0 W9 T9 Y9 B9 K9 M9 L6 V4 S1 N1 Q0 O0

If i am right in saying does that mean that there are a few seats left in J and F?

And with Flight 2 - R0 F4 A3 J0 C0 D0 I0 W1 T1 Y3 B3 K1 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

Looks pretty full with all the Zeros, so maybe my chances are bad...

well. ive tried the QFF customer contact center now twice and both times a resounding no..

before i keep hammering them.. doesn anyone know if they have the delegation or power to make this call without escalating? if so should i keep trying a few more times?

Are notes kept on the booking/account ? :P

:/

NOQE fares are not eligible for upgrade requests:
Frequent Flyer - Using Points - Flight Upgrades - About Flight Upgrades

Personally, if you've already been knocked back twice, I wouldn't bother calling anymore - they are just applying the rules as they currently stand. If they make an exception for you, what's the point of having the rules in the first place - everyone can just ask to be made an exception...

I don't like your chances of getting this, and I would think it unlikely that someone in the contact centre would bend the rules for you. Unless a promotion comes along that will allow this, it may be that your best bet would be to upgrade to a fare class that allows upgrades (and then cross your fingers that it comes through!)

Agree with the previous 2 posters, the promotion I mentioned earlier finished 8 days ago.

Unless there's another such promotion, or, indeed, a change to the T&C's, upgrading your fare class with $$ is your best best.

I agree. The only other chance is knowing that some people received phone calls in the week or so before travel specifically asking if they wanted to upgrade from an ineligible fare before the mentioned promotion was made official, that its possible they may still make offers to specific people on specific flights rather than an across-the-board short term promotion. But that is not something to rely upon and not something that calling is going to influence.

Have just spent a frustrating 45 mins talking to 2 'people without any authority' on the FF NoHelpdesk.

For that promotion period mentioned in other posts I looked at 'My Bookings' and saw I could upgrade from O to J, but I had to request this late July as the travel is on 24 Oct.

Now, of course, when looking at My Bookings I get the message that I can't upgrade on that fare.

QF admit my travel dates were never going to be eligible in this promotion, however I feel Qantas have made an offer to me which they should honour. To me they could have targeted the offer only to people with bookings in that date range instead of giving and taking away - NoHelpDesk no 1 said 'the Internet' wouldn't let them do this, her Supervisor said it would be 'very hard'. Where do they get these people?

Anyway, I realise I am ranting but I wish they hadn't got my hopes up in the first place!:evil::evil:

Has anyone ever had success challenging these things through the online feedback, or to whoever runs the FF program?
