Just received word from a friend travelling QF J today that they were given some hassles by a dragon while trying to use a QP in an airport where there isn’t a J lounge.

To cut a long story short, it wasn’t a regional lounge, and they were ultimately asked to leave the lounge, while still having an onward J ticket. When they showed their QP card, things changed and they were welcomed back into the lounge.

So, do J travellers really have no QP access anymore?

According to QP access rules: Access to The Qantas Club lounges they’re no problem accessing a QP as a domestic business customer.

Should they remember the dragons name and make a complaint?

Sam, some more specific if possible.

1. Was the flight they were departing on from that location in J?
2. How did they enter in the first place?
3. Where was it?

1. Yes.
2. Didn't get past the desk until QP card came into play.
3. HBA.

Make a complaint to QF, they dont get many QF J flights down there.

Thanks. We'll be travelling to/from HBA later this year, but I should be Gold by then, and mrsdoc is QP anyway so not really an issue.

+1 to feedback as it shouldnt have been that hard.

So why was the Qantas Club status not showing on the Business Class Boarding Pass?

non revs in J (even if a QP member) dont get QP access. Could this be a factor?

I haven't read or seen that anywhere. My parents are NB's and flew the DRW and back on an award J ticket and had no issues accessing the QP in DRW.

I don’t see why it would be, as the next journey of the trip they got J lounge access and the manager there was equally puzzled. Seems more like a dragon who isn’t doing their job properly.

Where does it say that "non revs" in J don’t get lounge time?

"Non Revs" typically refers to those travilling as staff or on deeply discounted industry fares.

Award travel is not deemed "Non Rev.".

That is possibly referring to some sort of staff travel rather than an award ticket.

Just to clarify:

10.2 Unless otherwise permitted by Qantas, Members who are also airline industry staff, including their families and travel companions, are not eligible to access lounges when travelling on industry discounted tickets.

But in Sams case, the Dragon was on another planet:

Domestic Business customer and one guest can access the lounge when departing on a Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number. Guest does not need to be travelling.

+1 would be complaining to QF customer service - lounge access for J pax has been in place for quite some time now, so there's really no excuse for a lounge dragon to not know that rule. Sounds like retraining is in order.

Since when were pax who are allowed access by their ticket (not status) allowed to bring in a guest?

The OP does indicate more than one passenger with the use of the word "They".

Also, you are correct that Business clas based access does not provide for guests.

However, there is no indication in this thread that any of the PAX involved were not travelling in J.

[edit] -wrong - I should have checked, QF J PAX are entitled to one Guest[/edit]

But reference is made to the guest not travelling:

Sorry, I was trying to be gender neutral and mysterious so used they instead of he/she.

There was only one pax.

As for guests, according to the QP access page, it appears a J pax can bring in a guest:

Domestic Business customer and one guest can access the lounge when departing on a Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number. Guest does not need to be travelling.
