I'd try to catch up ~6pm, but I'm guesting anjz into the F lounge - If you can get to T1 before 5pm we may have time.

There's a Cathay flight at 0120, though maybe they have their own lounge.

serfty, looks like we'll miss one another as I don't see any hope to get there by 5pm - my last meeting is 2pm but it'll be at least a couple of hours, then I'll be in peak hour to the airport.

If things change, I'll ring you and probably try to catch up before you check-in and go airside. I can then just walk through to Dom Terminal and check-in (will only have carry-on)

It was good to catch up with Serfty at JFK this month (some quick clearance through immigration, good baggage handlers and a small delay to QF10Late meant we could chat for a little while) and also got to chat to Tscharke at Narita for a couple of hours while waiting for our respective flights.

See - if you post flights, then meetings can happen!

Cheers guys.

The ba97 website works well - and a bit easier to follow that the thread like this when none of it is order. Mind you even that shows no-one flying when I do :(

simongr, I tried for a couple of months earlier this year (see example) to institute a system but few took it up, so if nobody could be bothered, then neither could I be bothered trying to keep it up.

I remember that - good effort - I think some people found it a little slow to respond - though I would urge people to try the ba97 version - a lot of info is already on there.

Hmmm, without going to try and find it on FT (call me time pressed this afternoon or lazy, whatever suits), can you post the link (I'm sure it's in your Favourites).

I think most people appreciated the effort you put in to get that up and running but from my point of view the website wasn't adequate. I find most online calendar functions coughbersome including BA97 which to me looks like a mess.

Now these threads are not perfect but they are concise and only affect the people that frequent AFF and FT. For me it has so far resulted in several get togethers, and some near misses, after posting flights and lounge times.

Sorry to disagree JohnK, but I think a calendar is the best method as you can go direct to the date on which you are flying and see which other pax are travelling on the same date. Whereas, the posting system requires you to search through each post individually until you identify a pax that might be travelling on the same date etc.

I think this function has its benefits as well - as it can spark discourse on potential meetings etc. For actual checking of who is around I do use ba97 as it can be nice and simple.

Maca44,

It seems, from the responses that Lindsay had that people are totally apathetic OR find this system suitable.

Quite frankly I have to agree with JohnK that the web based system is less than adequate (I did try it) though I don't think the posting method is very good either. I don't have anything better to offer either.

While BA97 can be somewhat coughbersome to edit/add flights, it is a simple web site, not lumbered with bandwidth chewing content like Flash ads or Java. As such it load very quickly (unless looking at Kiwi Flyer's calendar). :p

It was while updating BA97 a month ago I noticed the afore mentioned ajnz logged as bing on the same flight as me; I in 4C and he in 4D on a 73H.

I have tried flight memory and while I intend to persevere, it's not a good one for lounge meeting (and it's a PITA to enter edit flights).

With BA97 you can filter by region, and have a look at who is travelling when.

Here's a link to the main diary page: ba97.com - Travel Calendar

Well, this certainly started some discussion.

Yes, I was merely looking at trying to find something better than the purely manual system that is in use in these threads. I toyed with the idea of having a master post in the thread, but that relies on somebody being responsible for updating members travel details. This is data double handling, fraught with external issues (sickness, work/travel, time, inclination, etc), so I looked for something that everybody can be responsible for their own data entry. Some advised they didn't want to be involved, that's their choice and I support their decision.

Now, I don't think any system is going to suit everybody (each to their own), but I felt it worthwhile to do some research to assist those who do want to use one. The ability to catch up with somebody (whether in Australia or in some far flung airport in another country) tends to start to personalise AFF. We are an online community at the moment, however few know one another. I'm sure that some will have walked past one another in airports here in australia, blissfully unaware of each other. There are likely to be people who don't want to meet others here (for any multitude of good reasons), that's fine - they won't be posting here.

I don't care which system is used (no skin off my nose whether it's ba97 or the one I brought up) - but perhaps ba97 lends to a greater community of travellers as it's also used on Flyertalk. Sure, it's also interesting to see people travelling to to/from places I've never heard of before.

That's my 2c worth, now everybody has the opportunity to decide how they are going to advise others of their travel plans.
