Give it a couple of days to sort out. Seems to be right by about the 3rd or 4th day of the new membership year.

I have the same issue with my Platinum (which I know I am not). I just wonder if perhaps QF have a grace period of a few days on the status in order to get you your new card a level down, or something like that.

It took them about 3 weeks to post my Lifetime Gold kit when I dropped from the hallowed ranks of Platinum. It took about 3 days for the F web site to cotton on to the fact that I had not reach the renewal mark (strange that, with 0 SCs for the last two membership years I thought they could have predicted that I was not going to requalify).

And other have reported similar delays at the month end. It just seems that the batch processing is not run until a few days after the end of the month.

Hmm, that (unfortunately) makes perfect sense.
Given what Andrew has said on the 'grace' period to renew a QC membership, I've got a few weeks to convince the better half that it's a needed investment. Ah well...

Strange .... if I go to www.qantas.com/renew I get what looks like a standard web page. It offers 1 year at $195 or 2 years at $325....
That page prompts for login to QFF account. So it would appear that Gold and Platinum members do not get to see the renewal rates.

Even if that were the case, there must be a reason for doing that. It does not make much sense to leave an old status displaying.

They said that the membership could lapse for up to 3 months before a re-joining fee would be levied.

Yep, that's what I remember reading on either AFF or FT, once you drop to PS you have 3 months upon which you need to make the choice to renew or not.

There will be some people who will have flights credit just after end of year and renew their status at that point; this way it ensures that they don't drop in status during that period. That would be my guess on the delay

Very true.

And another option is that the batch processing window is small for an airline that essentially operates across global timezones. And its likely that their end-of-month batch runs can be significant. So it may well suit their systems to run the FF monthly batch processing over a few days.

OK .... good ..... now did you login? If you did and still weren't seeing the renewal rates then maybe it is smart enough to know when you need to stump up and when you don't.

Possibly the rates offered are also linked to your current membership type and history. $325 for 2 years is not as good as the previous $297 for 3, but is better than the published corporate rate. Do other people see this rate as well when renewing online? If not I probably should have just kept schtum and exploited Telstra-Sol for a couple more years.

Cheers,

Andrew

.

When I go to that page it asks for me to login and then, once logged in, tells me that as a Platinum member I have complimentary membership

When I said that I hadn't seen renewal rates listed on the site though, I meant that I hadnt seen a table of the costs of the manner that they display for those looking for new membership.

I can accept this reason - it certainly explains it from a business process context.

Well I now have answers to all my previous questions. Should have just waited a few days as NM suggested.

I'm now a PS (as expected), *but* QF have made the landing even softer by giving me 3months of QP membership - which will handle the trip back to Oz very nicely thank you. I've heard about this in the past, but I thought it had gone away. Maybe it only happens for the first SG->PS drop?

FWIW, Individual QP Renewals are:
1 year $405.00 75,000
2 year $730.00 150,000
4 year $1,370.00 275,000

So all in all, not a bad outcome - I still get lounge access for the flight home and priority checkin for AA flights here. Which in the US (esp. at LAX domestic) I value more than AC access!

Are you saying that being a QClub member gets you priority checkin on AA (QF codeshare or otherwise)? If yes, which checkin queue do you go to?

thanks,

thanks,

QP membership allows access to the lounge when travelling AA; it does not afford priority check in privileges. His OW Ruby status from the QF Silver status provides for priority check in

Did you have a paid Qantas Club membership prior to reaching Gold FF status? if so, the 3 months membership may be the remaining time that was put into limo when your Gold status kicked in.

Otherwise I have only heard of them giving a 3-month grace period for you to purchase a Qantas Club membership without having to pay the joining fee. But you don't get lounge access unless you actually pay.

I did not have a QP membership before the SG, so this is not the remaining part of that.

I'll be a little disapointed if I don't get lounge access for the three months as it's - well - confusing. When I check the QP renewal section, it says I am a member until end Jan 08.
Surely their systems are not so broken that they have to resort to "it's not a proper membership, but we set that flag so we can keep track of your exemption from the joining fee". What happens on regular QP expiry? I can't believe that it would say "<blah> - Qantas Club" for a full three months afterwards.

Email sent to QF, we shall see what they say.

I have heard of people getting 3 months complimentary membership after downgrading from gold, so it could well be correct that you do have 3 months membership.

That's what I am hoping. It certainly is the impression I get from everything I see on the QF site. The litmus test will be in a couple of months.

If is says you have Qantas Club Silver status through to Jan 08 then I would take that as what Qantas will see too  .

That's what I thought. Usually "that's what it says in the computer, Sir" is enough for most people. ;)

Besides, it's nice to be lucky once in a while.
