Avios can be transferred with no penalty between QR, BA, AY and IB. You need to have an account with the carrier to transfer into. BA is perhaps the easiest to use to find a domestic QF redemption to use the points up.This post doesn't fit this thread but I can't see where else to put it. MsP has QR Avios expiring soon and not likely to use them in the short term. Can she transfer them to another airline scheme or do something else so as not to lose them? @JessicaTam
Yes, as transferring doesn't count as activity.I understand buying 1,000 Avios from QR for $45AUD should extend them for another 3 years.
Thank you for the suggestion but all the reading I have done indicates it does not reset the clock.Avios can be transferred with no penalty between QR, BA, AY and IB. You need to have an account with the carrier to transfer into. BA is perhaps the easiest to use to find a domestic QF redemption to use the points up.
QR might be useful to find a VA redemption, but I have no experience with this.
I don’t know if transferring them between carriers will extend their life.

Thank you @Flashback confirming my research.Yes, as transferring doesn't count as activity.
Thank you @GrahamBRI This was my conclusion this morning.I understand buying 1,000 Avios from QR for $45AUD should extend them for another 3 years.
That should trigger earning, although maybe just check the minimum activity amount for RFS activation.Cheapest method at this time will be to transfer 500 Amex Rewards to Qatar = 250 Avios, then transfer the Avios across to MsPs account. Thoughts? @Flashback
RFS? Activity of 1 Avios is sufficient to reset the clock. That should trigger earning, although maybe just check the minimum activity amount for RFS activation.
Have you had any dealings with QR reps ?Just finished chat with QR rep. Any account activity resets the clock, so a transfer to a family member acct or to another airline or hotel account is regarded as activity and the 36 months resets.
Edit: Interaction with agent. As you can see I rephrased so as not to have any confusion -
Agent: Avios will not expire as long as the member does Avios accrual/redemption activity with Qatar Airways or partners (Air, Non-air).By default, if members have no activity for 36 consecutive months, then all of their balance Avios will expire. Expiry will be three years from their last accrual or redemption
prozac : So if she transfers 1,000 Qatar Avios to her BA account that counts as activity?
Agent: Yes if she transfer 1000 Avios the Avios validity will be changed
prozac : So the remaining AVIOS in QATAR will have 36 months renewed and the same for BA?
Agent: Yes
