I'm off to Europe on May 16. Flying QF MEL-BKK and then QR BKK-MXP and then the reverse on the return. The MEL-BKK return was booked direct with QF and the BKK-MXP direct with QR so they are on different PNR's. The QF flights are in Y and the QR ones in J if that makes any difference (I suspect it doesn't). On the way out we are stopping over at the Novotel in BKK for the night so no need for through check but on the way back we have a 6 hour layover in BKK and it would be nice if we didn't have to go through immi and collect bags and recheck etc. Its just occurred to me that we may have to do this, searching for a definitive answer online hasn't helped so I thought someone here might know for sure. I know QF stopped interlining bags other than for OW and partner airlines and QR aren't OW yet so thought it might be a no-go?

Thanks in advance

Timmi

QR not official OW partner yet (nor affiliate to QF) so no interlining. The only current (and quite recent exception) would be for OW Global Explorer fares.

The OP is more looking for the QR -> QF connection on the way back. Is there an interline agreement in place between the 2, as that may be your answer.

If you were looking at on the way to MXP I agree the answer would be no.

Even if QF wouldn't interline QF to QR on separate pnrs due to QR not being in the OW Alliance, it's not to say that QR wouldn't interline to QF.

All you can do is ask & if they don't, ask staff at the transfer desk in BKK if they're able to retag the bags behind the scenes (like they do in SIN) which would alleviate the issue of having to clear customs in BKK & recheck.

This was 3.5 years ago, before QF stopped interlining to all but OW, but we interlined bags successfully PER(qf)-SIN(qr)-DOH(qr)-ATH so it might be possible to go QR-QF

However I do recall some relatives going MEL-DOH-ATH-RHO last year and being told they could not interline to A3, so perhaps my answer is not as cut and dried as it could be.

Oh well, its not the end of the world either way. I will report back what eventuates when I return. Thanks for the insight all!

Cheers

Just an update now im back. QR would not check bags through and we ended up collecting in BKK and re checking. It was a bit of a pain as we had to wait a while for QF check in to open but it wasn't a big deal.

QR has stopped interlining to flights not in the same PNR. I had the same experience at the DOH premium terminal back in January, where they wouldn't interline to SQ in DXB. I used to be able to get them to do it about half a year back with no issues at all.

However, they would have to do it when they officially join OW wouldn't they? (At least to OW partners on separate tickets?)
