QR withholding award seats from Qantas?

Who decides when to release award seats for redemption. ?

If I am not seeing availability for Mid June, is it an indication that I have no hope of securing a seat closer towards the month of June...

If I call their privilege club team, am I wasting my time if I ask them to release an award seat ?
Are you trying to book with Qantas points or Qatar points?

If it is Qantas points, you have no hope. Qatar have basically stopped releasing rewards seats to Qantas points holders. There's a tiny exception for seats a few days before flight.

If it is Qatar points, most seats have been booked, but occasionally some more are released close to the date (typically 7-14 days out).

Qatar points ( avios)..

Is there a way to receive an alert when a reward seat becomes available or do I have to cross my fingers each time I do a search ?

QR flights are only visible for 30 days in advance for Y, and 3 days in advance for Premium.

I am planning a trip for 50 days in duration.

I've booked classic rewards RTW and will add QR Y sectors when they become available 30 days prior to travel. This will require re-ticketing.

I am away for 50 days, and ideally want all QR sectors inside the RTW ticket - currently return sectors will become available in Qantas system after I travel my first sector. Ticket rules have some restrictions about changes once first sector is travelled.

What are my options here...??

I'm thinking of booking ALL the additional QR sectors I want inside the 30 day availability window, and then just changing (pushing out) the return dates of travel when reward seats are visible in Qantas (about 20 days into my journey).

Will this work - what ticketing issues might I encounter?

Potentially massive and insurmountable. You would’ve read many many stories here about how Qantas does not re- ticket award flights in time. If this happens, QR will cancel the entire ticket.

If you really must get those QR award seats, then if possible, I would have them ticketed quite separately from your other ticket.

This is one of the most optimistic things i have ever seen, good luck!

What is everyone's confidence level that this will return to 100+ days in advance again? Just booked a trip where I would like change to return with Qatar but the trip is longer than 30 days

I'm late to the party but I've been wondering why Qatar has been unavailable on QFF until I stumbled upon this thread. This three-day nonsense is unbelievable. I'm surprised these carriers can't patch things up and work together.

In view of the latest interactions involving the two, I think unlikely any time soon.

We use AAdvantage mileage for our redemptions. Over the last month I have booked 2 x biz MEL-BAR, MAD-MEL for May-June '24 and had choice of Qatar flights for most days. I was tracking day by day and could see QR usually releases 2 seats per flight to AA. Advice to all is drop using QFF and earn/redeem on AA. And the extra 'bonus' is that AA don't add "carrier fees", unlike what the <redacted> gouges on QFF. So each AA flight is 85K miles and about USD$70.

After the latest little spat I’d hope QR removes all availability to QF

My guess is its meeting oneworld obligations whilst effectively QF blocking redemptions. I can't imagine they've had that many QFFs use points on QR flights in Y just 72 hours prior to departure.

Hopefully not related but most BA flights 12 months out to LHR in J seem to have vanished from QF booking system to book with points .....
