Q's on AAdvantage status requalification

I would do it if l lived in the states, but as l'm a SFSC, l can't afford full whY or flexi savers just to get points on AA scheme here in Oz. Mind you, from what l've read in the last few weeks, seems like the benefits that AA offer far outweigh the QF scheme, ALOT!

Here is a fare that can be done in 1 day. Guessing that even if your a QF member, and doing the Plat challenge you can't use your QP Card because your on AA FF and not a QF FF number which your card is linked too? You can buy entry to the AC for $50USD (I think...?).

Found cheap ones for under $1500 and a 2 day turn around. February, depart SYD on Wednesday and leave HNL on Friday morning, codeshare QF/AA. And l think that it's in "L" Class.

Very interesting. I wish QF would have something like this in place. And here l am flying PER to SYD (2041miles each way) on red-e's and only getting 40SC return! Depressing.

Thanks for the info Dave.

PS, l might consider doing this when my QP runs out in 2 years time. The cost of doing this is about 2 years "full paying" QP membership. So, why not do it and get it in style, get some points on AA, plus have AA Plat for 2 years?

That would be enough to get you AA Platinum. 60 sectors in O would get Platinum

The cheapest fares currently are in L class with V being the next one up if that is sold out; both will earn full qpoints and so allow the completion of the challenge with ease

Even if you have your AA number in the booking, you can still present a Qantas Club card (or Qantas Gold card in my case) for entry to the AA lounges, Just make sure the "helpful" agent does not offer to add your QF number to the booking, as if often the case at Qantas lounges.

I was in the same boat last year BlueAU. Some 100SC short of getting GOLD, but l had forked out over 5-6k and was only Silver. Looking back at it, l should have just done a LAN J run. But, try telling that to the other half.

Thanks for the info NM, l'll keep it in mind if l decide to do the challenge. It just seems so easy to get AA Plat, which is all l was after in the first place. I just want more lounge entry options as l can get cheaper flights from PER (with CX) to Europe compared to QF, like almost $1000 cheaper.

As a hint, l work in Hospitality (for far too long + I won't say which area) and have also worked in 5 star hotels in the past, so the F Lounge entry is no big deal to me. I hear lots of people talk about the F Lounge in Sydney and LHR, but, 'eh, been there, done that. Standard Lounge is fine. Just a shower and beer on a long haul is fine with me. :)

Note that you cannot use the Challenge to re-qualify status in subsequent years. Its designed to attract status members form other airlines without the need for comping new members. The following year you need to re-qualify by normal methods (50K qualifying Points, 50K Qualifying Miles or 50 sectors).

Couple of observations. You need H class or higher fares on CX to credit flights to AA. So the cheaper flights on CX may not be a bargain. I suppose this is one reason I still have a QF account. Also as the AU$ hits higher exchange rates, the availability of cheap fares ex SIN will make SIN-PER-SIN fares begin to look attractive again. Or perhaps TT or JQ ex PER to SIN. BKK fares are starting to look better as well but getting there from PER is an interesting exercise.

It's a pity that AA does not code share the QF flights PER-NRT-PER or QF/CX flights PER-HKG-PER.

Happy wandering
