I really want to try Qatar QSuite, looking at Oct 2024 using Avios…But it seems Doha - Sydney direct is Airbus A380-800 which does NOT have QSuite. Is this correct? If we want QSuite, do we have to fly Doha-Melb-Sydney? Is it worth the extra hassle coming home after 5 weeks travel? And what is BC like on the A380 please? TIA

Correct. Doha-Sydney is the A380 which doesn't have Q-Suites but is still a very nice business class. I enjoyed the bar as a nice break in the long trip. Whether it's worth the detour via Melbourne is a personal decision, I reckon, based on how much love you have for the Q-Suite.

Thanks, we’ll try for Q Suite another time…at that stage I’ll just want to get home.

The big difference between QSuites and their A380/B787-8 business seats is privacy. QSuites are just about the most private seats out there; the A380 seats are among the least. Whether or not that matters is your call.

I did Qsuite from Doha to Melb, then got a connecting flight to Sydney... One thing to keep in mind, your bags are not ticketed all the way through to Sydney. You will need to collect your bags at Melbourne airport, go through customs etc, re-check in the bags to Sydney at Melb Domestic. Bit of a hassle in my eyes. Having done both the Qsuite Melb flight and Sydney direct on A380 I would choose Sydney direct on balance - as people have mentioned, the bar is quite a nice breakout area to pass the time.

I've just completed four sectors on the A380. The J suites are similar (but better) to the CX J seats. Same great service and food. Added bonus of the bar on the A380.

On the right, the seat is pretty open. A pretty comfortable bed. Bar shown below.
