Mrs WF has little interest in traveling to some of the more interesting (in my humble opinion) places in SE Asia and the sub-continent. And while I'm eager to see Darjeeling and/or Lake Toba (as non-exhaustive examples), some expenses can be reduced without having to revert to hostels and local travel arrangements (eg buses/trains) are likely less prone to disaster if there are more than one person to consider the possibilities.

We have a lounge meetup section. Is there any interest in adding a small group (less than 5/6) travel meetup thread that could be used to "introduce" people with interests in "common destinations"?

Thoughts are always welcome while wandering

Fred

Apologies to the 5* hotel aficianados...

You can also save on accommodation and single supplements by travelling with a friend. But if you travel with someone of the same gender, you'll get people assuming one thing, and if of the opposite gender, well, I guess the same thing with different polarities.

Have you considered tours? A good company will handle all the details. Having someone who knows the local bus timetables etc is gold.

Having attended a number of DOs, I would much rather not travel ONLY with kettles or the normal passengers on (foreign) local transport. Besides Mrs WF would like emergency phone calls to be in English should that be necessary.:(

Consider that my locality has one of the lowest average incomes (as reported by the Perth newspaper) in Western Australia:rolleyes:. Eager travelers may be found but they are not in the quantity found in capital cities nor do they have the budget. Tours? Ones that use the local budget transport? One that explain the local transport cards and some of the better details (eg Seniors Octopus card in HKG). Only if you have local relatives I would suggest.

Gender issues - well that's why I sort of suggested 3-5 people... 4 being a good number for costs... Enough to completely book a hostel dorm if that what it would take to get "private" facilities.

But I'm wandering

Fred

The websites I have previously used and found a travel chum unfortunately have closed so now it is solo for me. If you find a good site please let me know as I would prefer to travel with a +1 to save on the 5 star costs, well 4* if I have to!!!
