im looking to use it to go to Cairns from Sydney with my partner. So that means we will have to book separately I'm assuming. What's the process for getting our seats put together and our flight itinerarys linked? Ideally I'd like to be able to get the economy X seats for both of us as I'm platinum.

I believe it has to be separate bookings.
After you book both flights, you can go manage booking on the website and "select seats".
Select the seats next to each other if available.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you call the Platinum line once both have been booked you should be able to join your bookings if you have both PNRs From there you should be able to access your seat selection for both, but since you're on the phone to the call centre they will probably be able to do the seat allocation at the same time.

What was mentioned above but despite all your efforts in many cases they’ll stuff up ... being my experience just last July.
