Now lets see ... 3 x DONE4 fares that include CX between HKG and LAX, and I am yet to turn right :D.
Why are CX so generous with the op ups?
Do they do it regardless of loadings? I mean, even when they are not oversold in J and Y?
If so, why would anyone with OW Emerald ever pay for F with CX?
I'm about to buy an AONE4 with most long-haul with CX - now I'm wondering whether I should just but a DONE4 and cross fingers!

My one and only CX op-up (and only opportunity for op-up) business was full, economy oversold and first fairly empty so they op-upped some econ->biz and biz->first. They seemed to start with OW Emeralds.

My last one (a few days ago) was due to the flight being oversold by 30. They had to roll forward. And since I had been delayed by 12 hours at LAX due to an AA tech problem, the AA agent had added a comment to my booking along the lines of "please consider for upgrade". And the lovely Rosie in the CX FLounge knew I was Emerald since I had asked her to change my FF details after the check-in agent changed it from AA to QF. And in discussion with Rosie she heard my tale of woe about being delayed at LAX for 12 hours. So I suspect all these things combined to help my probability.

On another flight I very politely asked at The Wing if there was a better seat than I had been pre-allocated. I was not asking for an upgrade, just my preferred aisle seat instead of the window that had been assigned. The flight was full so the agent apologised and said there was nothing better available. I thanked her very much for trying to help and said it was my problem since the flight was only booked the day before. At the gate my seat was changed to 1K.

So yes, its been overbooking for me.

The other occasion was booking mistake by the TA - but that is another story :p.
