Did I understand correctly from a supplementary post by the OP that this was possibly charged to his business?

I should login a bit more often. Seems I've missed some insightful commentary, some genuine query and questions and some comments which beg me to question the poster love of flying and all thing FF related.

Im not going to respond individually to each post but will add the following.

Flying has and always will be a hobby and passion. I have been fortunate to travel F on most top tier airlines and numerous routes over the years. I have always enjoyed playing the game and extracting maximum benefit from loopholes, fare mistakes or clever planning and routing.

Ive held Platinum for a long time, and WP since inception. I've been to all the launches, lunches and lubrications that QF have thrown for WP's.

My travel patterns going forward mean that I may not qualify over the coming period. I do not want to lose the tenure nor break the streak. Rational? Perhaps not. My view and desire? Damn right. as I have always said, I like shiny cards.

Why the multiple TT trips in a compressed timeframe? Firstly I could sleep in my own bed each night, it was a normal work day in many respects. I actually had highly productive days. It really is just like a domestic trip. A couple of days I did utilise my time on a horse deal, both visiting with my Bloodstock agent and also a follow up meeting. Using E Gates minimises interaction, and perhaps questions. Can't answer as to the profiling that Border Security use on either side of the ditch.

I firmly believe that QF have a multi tier approach to WP. I have had nothing but positive experiences. It could be a result of the $ I spend with QF and that of my staff. Or the margin/yield on my account. There is also significant freight spend. Although I'm still short of the converted CL invite, although I'm told it's close!

My wife and I have had plenty of money can't buy events and invites through WP. The annual tennis and GP events are worth a lot to us. Simulators, wine, dinners add to the mix. But it is the service that I and my wife and children get that can't be beat.

Also, with a very high American Express MR point tally, the key benefit, which is really pertinent to me, is the ability to have premium award seats opened, either for myself, but often for a party of five. This week we just had 5 return seats opened for Hamilton Island in August. In the FAS/JAS era, it wasn't a huge issue, but now it is.

Much of my future flying with QF will be award redemption, hence perhaps not qualifying for WP. The $15k 'cost' to convert millions of points annually is similar to paying a commission to an agent.

And I've worked damned hard to build my wealth and I'll spend when and where I want and see benefit.

Good on you OP :)

You find usefulness in WP1, had fun achieving it, did some business on the other end and it hurt nobody.

Don't take it to heart what the keyboard warriors say, this is an internet forum up in the cloud. Jealousy comes in many shapes and forms.

Enjoy life and keep living the dream.

Wow! Impressive and dedicated! Well done!

I did an Auckland trip a couple of weeks ago - about $1900 for 480 SC (J from CBR via Sydney with DSC) - so $3.96 per sc. I stayed for the weekend and had some fun though and used points for my DD to travel with me. (like your horse references - I had to tear her away from her horse - she doesn't like to leave for long)

Did the same thing last year to maintain WP after reading about the advantages of NZ trips from CBR. Following this year's trip, I've now scheduled an unexpected work trip to Europe on QR in J so I actually didn't need the SCs after all this year.

You've given me some ideas!

I disagree levelnine. We don't have the moral right to criticise on how people spend their own money. Period. Their money.

Everyone has a right to criticise, just as everyone also has a right to ignore said criticism.
Opinions are like noses, everybody has one .

No, you misread my post. I said you are spending the money on weapons, not the government.

Let me put it another way.

Say your next door neighbour spends his money purchasing a highly volatile substance that could explode at any point in time.

Are you unable to criticise him for the way he has spent his money?

I think that analogy is a bit of a stretch, anybody doing anything that endangers others is not only irresponsible but potentially illegal, so whether or not they spent a lot or a little money to do so is less relevant.

Fair enough. But I do object to the use of the 'moral grounds' argument used to criticise the spend.

Just noticed I have used WP instead of P1 or WP1 through the above post.

Apologies for any confusion

very well said Platinum one.

I can see the non-travel related value from P1 (Even just reading the P1 thread). My folks are the equivalent of P1 on MPC and the events that we got to go to when we were younger as a family and the flexibility with award tickets, op-ups during peak period is really beneficial. As with anything you buy in life, not everyone sees value in it and some posters might not value them like you do.
