Quick points

Uh Poochie you do understand that WWR uses targeted promotions? That you get xyz offers does not mean everyone does, so it's kind of irrelevant in the context of suggesting ways to earn extra WWR points.

Also earn for PC through flying will only generate a max of 20k points per year(iirc).. so if the 20k have already been earned from flying, then doing more flying will not generate any PC eligible points.

Just sayin'

Points Club membership seems to be pitched at a level that would be almost impossible to attain without credit card sign up bonuses. So if the OP is mad keen on chasing it for the lounge passes (really, why?) then forget the current balance and just sign up for two cards that have a combined bonus of 150,000 or more. Some cards even come with additional lounge passes with spend on QF flights.

I would really counsel, though, that the Points Club benefits are so scant as to be not worth actively chasing. If they come through activity that would have happened anyway then great, but I would not spend a single extra dollar to get them.

Totally agree with you Mr H.

The problem in this scenario with CC bonus points offers for sign ups is TIME.

OP wants to get there by Jan 31 (membership rollover). That means you'd have to:

- apply for card
- be approved
- receive card, or at least the details
- spend the required amount
- have those post

in a few weeks.

I can't see any scenario where that would happen.

For the next membership year, sure.

And of course some of the cards even come with lounge passes .... :D

Yes - that's why I am suggesting forgetting the current balance and doing two credit card applications that will add up to 150,000 points plus - achieving membership from a zeroed balance. It is no real effort and the membership could be achieved in six weeks or so with a fair wind. I still think the prize of two passes to a business lounge is not of great value - to spend an hour sitting in a space that is honestly not much different to the airport cafes where you have to pay for your coffee and sandwich.

I purchased some Qantas Wine Last month - points inc. bonus arrived into account the next day.
Same for me. And what's more interesting is that they stayed in my account even whenI cancelled the purchase the same day (because of misleading information provided on the Qantas website about the product they were going to supply me with).

While the sign bonuses have helped some years, by putting all of our expenditure on our credit cards and paying the balance off each month, we clock up close to 10-11k points per month (Plus tax bills through Yakpay), and with 20,000 from flying we get to Points Club without any problems. The main benefit the past couple of years, has been able to earn SCs on Reward Flights.

Although that doesn't help the OP in this situation. As others have said, Qantas Wines would be the quickest method.

You would be the exception then - but you do show that PC can sometimes be obtained without sign up bonuses. You are managing to get one PC membership from the spend of (at least) two people. Other issues come into play like hitting monthly caps if your spend is lumpy. The SCs from reward flights are quite minimal, I think, and risk tempting you into spending more on surcharges for less interesting flights than you could get with OW partners. But everyone's situation is different so it is a fool's game to try to make general rules.

heavy wine drinkers could make PC easily enough... not that one condones this.

You're right in saying it's not worth trying to push your spend to get some 'benefits' from PC, or any other frequent xx_ scheme. We don't chase it, but just maximise the opportunities to earn points through our normal transactions. There are also some other goodies, such as the reward flights counting towards the 4 eligible flights, and roll over of some of the SCs into the next year. The Qantas Points Club Discussion thread has a lot of info. Qantas Points Club Discussion

I know the benefits. I disagree that it is never worth pushing spend for frequent flyer schemes. For example, I am happy to pay credit card annual fees on cards I never use just for the sign up bonuses. $200 for 100,000 points (or whatever other payoff) is a bargain. Since I don't fly with Qantas except on reward bookings, status credits are irrelevant to me - but for someone else they might be the deal clincher. But having looked at all the PC threads, I get the impression I am not alone in thinking the rewards are thin.

I no longer drink, but when I did I had the impression that the Qantas wines were generally available elsewhere for substantially less money. Was I mistaken?
You're possibly right.

tbh I only purchase bonus point offers for obvious reasons. eg there are often 10x bonus points or sometimes 15 or 20k depending on the product for say a case of wine. Say someone took one offer a month you could be there with the 3pts/$ spend plus the bonus.

So in a way this is a case of accepting the bit higher price tag as paying for the cost of the points more or less and can be a value proposition on some items even.

I only buy maybe a case every 2-3 months because it takes me that long to get through them (I am not a heavy drinker I guess) but defnitely the earn has contributed a lot to PC.

Though I do not buy those to make PC. I don't chase that at all.

OP wants to get there by Jan 31 (membership rollover).

However reaching PC by end of Jan will only get him benefits for 12 months.

Whereas, it is actually better to start the process of apply for 2 CCs now with sign-up bonus', hitting the qualifying spend as early as possible in the next year (totally achievable by end of Feb) that way he get benefits of PC for 23 months (the remainder of the year he qualified and all of the next year). Means will easily get to use the PC lounge passes as well as those that come with the credit cards.

Is that the case for someone getting into PC for the first time, or would the membership year reset on qualification?
