Quickest status run totalling 830SCs in <24 hours

If this is a Business Saver fare (I class) then the SC earn will be 780 (by my calculations)

Done this exact schedule couple of time in the past. The good part is wide body to and from Auckland so no Dom J and can be done in a day. In J you will be first off and transit security will take all of 5 minutes. You can OLCI for all the legs, so even if you are a little delayed out of Sydney, you will have still have time to look wishfully at the emirates lounge being closed and try the one flavour of ice cream in the lounge. (assume carry on only)
Tried and tested. I like it!

You mention "no Dom J" working in our favour. What does this mean?

Add on the EXST and it brings us to 830SCs.

Are you allowed to book EXST on J multi sector, especially if its an A330 - as in - what are the chances they bump your EXST and ruin the run?
Probably pretty low. After all you did pay for it ar normal fare prices (minus taxes i believe). Of course when Operational need arises then anything goes.

Is an EXST bookable once you have your initial ticket booked? And is it usually just the fare component that needs to be paid?

You need to book them together… the EXST can’t exist without the main seat in a single booking.

The only way to do this with Qantas is to make your initial booking via the call centre.

It is just the fare component, no taxes.

If you need to add an EXST after you’ve already made a booking, they’ll need to cancel the original to create a new one. Friends tried to do this and ended up taking a lot of time and frustration.

Thankfully Hokey pokey is the best flavour :)
I'm surprised you can get EXST on Business Class to be honest.
There aren’t any limits per se in the reasons for an extra seat… just that it is ‘for comfort’. This could be you want the additional privacy.

You can also book an additional seat for bulky cabin baggage, such as a musical instrument. this has a different code but still earns points and scs.

Me too and hard to see the point.

In whY where arm rests can be raised its gives you space and means no one is squished next to you.

But J seats are wider and with the exception of the 737s the windows seats are all singles affording plenty of privacy. Even on 737 your cant raise the J arm rest to get more space.

In this case, the OP isn’t really buying an EXST, they’re just leveraging for extra SCs.

Which then begs the question for all status runs, where is the best value for money to not just do your own bum in seat run, but your best bis + leveraged run?

A very cheap J flight +EXST likely trumps other longer or more convoluted options.

This then in turn raises the thought that maybe airlines wouldn’t want people doing runs with an EXST so often and the logical conclusion is that they can sell status leveraging for a certain dollar figure???

As for the actual point of the original post by @vladiclav, this sounds like one of those occasions where the cost makes little sense: if you need that many SCs then you’re not flying much and probably don’t need the higher status in the first place. Use the cash saved from not chasing status to just pay for the things you want like extra legroom or lounge access.

(800+ SCs needed… that’s some REALLY expensive S&P squid in the QF First lounge…)

Could be for various reasons. Low travel now but huge ramp up the year after. Or having loads of Y travel or partner OW travel which are low earning for QFF status.

In my case, I need the status as I fly each year OS and multiple MEL-PER runs where I'm flying with multiple members to and from. Call centres releasing flight rewards as a Platinum member are invaluable to me.

Qantas were able to release 2 first class and 5 business MEL-LAX CFR on the one flight and return to get my family over to Brazil for a wedding. Massive savings given my point balance.

I'm just making up the differential from what I need after earning status as a points club plus member.
