Everything is expensive in Oslo. This is certainly not a 5 star hotel but still set us back $400 a night. At the time of booking there were no Hilton or SPG properties in Oslo. The Doubletree did open just before we arrived but we walked past it and the Renovations obviously weren't finished-and the rates for a king bed there are $600 a night!
The advantage for us was that this hotel is the terminus for the Flybussen from OSL-140NOK($28).They do take Amex though.
The room was typical of Europe, not large, king bed was 2 singles together with 2 single duvets. We got "upgraded"to the 8th floor-which meant we got wooden furniture rather than plastic. We got a city view room rather than the fjord view.

Once again breakfast and internet were included in the rate.Breakfast was again quite reasonable. It was only a short walk to the palace,so not too far from the city centre.3 tram routes ran right by so using the Oslo card it was very convenient.
Just across from the hotel the La Sangria restaurant did very good Spanish Tapas.
So although by my values this was not good value for Norway it was reasonable.

Too right Norway is expensive! Stayed a couple of nights at the SAS Park (or some name like that) outside the old Fornebu airport in mid 90s at some outrageous rate (~$300 IIRC), and paid ~AUD8 for roughly a 'pot' (285 ml) of beer in an Oslo bar.

Lovely country though (at those prices it'd want to be). :)
