Jetstar emailed me with a $99 each way special from MEL-AYQ.
The only time I have off is the Victorian Labour Day weekend, I'd have to go on Saturday arriving at lunchtime, then depart 1.50pm on Sunday while accommodation for one night is about $550.
Is such a short break worth it? It's been 14 years since I was at Uluru when I was on a much poorer wage.

I think even if you disregarded the costs, if you calculate the actual free time you'll have on the ground after transits and check-ins, you'll find it's too little to make it worthwhile.

Check the prices of accommodation, hire-car, and tours before even considering a booking.

It might be a cheap fare, but it will be an expensive trip.
This!

There was a NT Tourism promotion a few months ago with $99 fares to the NT. Accommodwtion on the other hand was completely sold out for the duration of the promotion, or in the many hundreds of dollars a night for even the most basic of motels.

Essentially the fares were unusable unless you had family or friends to stay with.
