My fee comes up for renewal in December. I'm currently deciding whether I should try and ask for a reduction and cancel or pay it for another year to have a 1:1 QFF MC. What are my chances like?

Probably depends on how much money you have put through it and so how valuable you are to them...

Well they gave it to me and my expenditure was close to nil (really I prefer SQ). In fact not only gave me fee free for a year but offered a balance transfer at 0% for 6 months. Unsurprisingly I took them up on this and put the money I would have been using to pay off the credit card bills into a online Saver account for 6 months.

If you like and want the card, then pay the fee that you agreed to pay when you accepted the card. If you don't like the fee then cancel the card.

That deal would be perfect for me, burmans. I'll send you a PM about it.

In August I called up to cancel mine (no point in having it now I have the jetstar mastercard which is also 1:1 earn, has insurance, avoids JQ CC fee etc etc). They did the hard sell, waived the annual fee without question. Being a little weak, I caved, so still have it. Have put $0 through it since.

I'm not a high worth customer to them - have put ~$1500 through that card, and have paid $0 interest.

Data point: Retentions are only open until 18:30hrs EST, so if you are going to call for a waiver, it needs to be done prior to this time period.

im sure that would warm the coughles of WOW's heart to hear you defending them like that but I think it's always worth asking :) these products are cash cows for them as it is.

in my experience last year they waived the fee and did a 0% balance transfer for me, i'd spent about 5k on it in the year but then switched cards.

If it makes you feel better, if I get a fee waiver again this year I will donate the $89 saved to charity, I do not have a problem asking if I can save some money... Each to their own I say...!

Edit: To be more specific, I will be putting the $89 towards http://au.movember.com/ in support of some of my customers doing the Movember challenge...

Edit Pt.2: Waiver was given and donations made as above, donation is tax deductible so good for me and good for the charity. Good card & happy to pay the fee BUT....not while they have 16k bonus QFF for new members & nothing for good customers like me. I suggested to the customer service that for good customers with big spend levels and no payment history problems the fee should be waived anyway...at least throw some bonus points for the loyal ones...

This is annoying.

I called today and talked them into waiving the annual fee, but they wouldn't give me the 0% BT offer - he said the best he could offer was 2.99%, for some reason. Although he did say to try calling again in a few weeks and they might be able to offer a better interest rate.

Nothing wrong with negotiating a contract variation.

Just like they can raise fees too, and not keep them at the levels you signed up to.

19/11/2012 RETENTION CREDIT $89.00
19/11/2012 PURCHASE THE MOVEMBER GROUP P **** $89.00

Phone Call > Ask > Retention Given > Donation to Movember > Sweet ;)

QEDRCC keep me as a customer, Movember Mens Health gets a donation to a good cause, Donation is tax deductible for me.... everybody wins, from just one phone call

nice one shintaro - my fee has just come up again also will see if they waive it again for me this year

I had another crack at having my fee waived this year. I was offered a low interest roll-over on any other credit card debt I might have - but no dice on the fee.

I ended up requesting a pay out figure after my statement period finished. Unfortunately, I seem to have done myself out of 7000 qff points. Still can't work out why I was credited 1500 but not the rest. Would have thought I had forfeited all my entitlement if my apparent little too hasty cancellation was the reason.

Thanks for posting, I also wondered about this so for my last month before the rollover I significantly reduced my spend before ringing up for a fee waiver request...

I'm curious with your spend through this card and if you have been given a waiver on this card before... IMO it is pretty easy to get a waiver on this card if you use it on a monthly basis.

What interest rate did they offer?
