Hi all.

My son who is 6 years old is having some difficulty with his vision. My wife took him to another specialist visit in Perth today were she was told here he is classified as legally blind. Now, he is only having trouble with one of his eyes and has been taking eye drops that reduce the ability of his good eye to work to encourage his bad one to lift its game so to speak. This has been an ongoing treatment plan for over 12 months. Now he has slightly improved but is still along way from what we would call "normal".

As a parent I want to provide the best of anything for my children, like any parent. So, what I'm hoping to gain from this thread is some thoughts on who is the best optical specialist in this country. I'm not saying that our current specialist is no good though, but I want to make sure we are doing everything possible to ensure your son has the best of the best looking after him. after all you only have two eyes!!

I look forward to your thoughts.

Cheers,

Nathan.

Hi Nathan

Sorry to hear the issues are you facing.

I have just undergone major surgery as I have a serious eye disease in both eyes and legally blind in one eye and the other is getting that point also.

The best specialist (and I had seen a few for my own battles) is Professor Grant Snibson based in Melbourne. His research and technology is way advanced from Switzerland and other specialists go to him with problems and training. It is called Eye Surgery Associates, which you can find on google.

Wish you all the best during this battle.

Hi Nathan

I can't give you the name of a particular ophtalmologist, but your situation has reminded me of my client's situation (different condition).
I won't mention any company's names either as I don't want to breach any rules, but if you are interested PM me and I can give you more details.
I'd suggest that either you or your wife take critical illness insurance with a particular company who has got access to the best doctors service (google it for more information). The minimum annual premium for this type of insurance is around $300. This in turn gives you and your immediate family access to 'best doctors' for no additional cost. For example, if you wanted second opinion, you'd get in touch with this service and they would pass your medical details onto the best ophtalmologist anywhere in the world who would then give his opinion back to you (and your specialist). Check with your financial planner about this insurance, if you don't have one, you can PM me and I can give you details of one of my colleagues in Perth.
Not sure if any of this can help, but thought I better give you more ideas to consider.

Thank you for your replys.

Ill be back home later next week and will discuss this with my wife. I'll PM shortly thanks BOZZ.

Thanks again.

Cheers.

Hi Nathan,

Just sent a PM, but I can't see if in my sent messages. Hope you've received it, if not let me know and I'll resend it.

The Lion's Eye Institute in Perth is considered to be world class. I suspect you will need a referral from an optometrist

It's been a couple of years since my visit.
