Reconsider non-essential overseas travel - waiver of QF change fees?

Thanks -- that number works, but the same wait time -- between 5 and 7 hours.

I doubt you can avoid that. At least you’re not paying international call rates. Can you time it for the middle of the night in Australia ?

You're right, of course. I've rebooked on an earlier flight, in the hope we can get out before Ireland and the UK take more drastic action and close the borders. I just want to alert Qatar that we won't be turning up for the later flight. I'll wait on the number you've provided (much thanks).

We have flights to US/Canada departing end of March - various bookings with QF (international) and United / Air Canada (US<->Canada).

If we cancel now and want a refund instead of a credit voucher, we have to pay the cancellation fee, as the flights are technically still flying.

If, on the other hand, QF/UA/AC cancel the flights between now and our departure date, we get a full refund and don't have to accept credit vouchers (which is particularly annoying, possibly even useless to us now, for the UA/AC segments).

Given QF's announcement today regarding savage international capacity cuts, we are going to wait to see what happens with the flights - see who blinks first... ditto for UA/AC.

My sister-in-law was doing a family holiday to London and France. They decided on Friday that they should cancel and phoned up and got cancellation fees etc. They decided to make a final decision over the weekend, so didn’t proceed. On Saturday morning they received an email saying their flight had been cancelled so they saved the fees. End March is very soon but things are changing rapidly so worth a wait.

We are in the same boat though Jetstar (let's face it, in Y with two young kids, not much difference in comfort between QF and JQ). Flights to HNL, leaving Mar 28, will most likely be cancelled so I prefer a full refund. Hawaiian, on the other hand, so far only offered travel credit for travel until Dec 31, 2020 and it's unlikely we will be in Hawaii until then; not cancelling anything yet and again hoping for a change from their end, so possibly unlikely that intra-islands flights will be affected as much as most other flights.

Could you use your travel insurance for the domestic flights in Hawaii if the flights to and from Hawaii are cancelled?

I see on the Qantas News Room site, they say....."To avoid further inconvenience, we’re converting all bookings on cancelled flights to a travel credit, which can be used anywhere on our network. Affected customers will be contacted directly from next Monday. Any customers travelling before the end of May who wish to change their booking are also eligible to receive a travel credit instead. ...."

As Qantas have cancelled my flights in May, surely I should have the option of 'cancelling' my flight without incurring a cancellation fee, and re-booking in May 2021.

Anyway, we shall see what contact they make next week and what offers they have.
