Red with 1215 status credits can someone help with eligible sectors

Perhaps the QF AGM might be closer (not sure who is going)

I didn't even consider this as I seldom look at anything QF related. Thanks for the heads up!

I've actually got the weekend off as well and I seldom have weekends off!

I just realised that dear Wifelet is working that night, I won't be able to make it.

Hoping to see a VA AGM coming up soon :)

I have red status and 1215 status credits earned since Christmas. Yesterday I completed three segments so assume status will change to silver. Flight booked Perth to Broome economy next week one way (paid flight with one person pooling to me). Need a flight Perth to Melbourne one way the week after (single flight not yet booked. No pooling available). Then return Perth to Wagga Wagga in May (May be able to pool from one person). Heading to USA on rewards flight in July and will need internal flights so would like status before then.
Can anyone suggest the easiest way to achieve this with the above?
Thanks in advance

One thing to watch out for in this predicament (I was in a similar one until last week) is that once you reach platinum any excess status credits over 1000 will not count to next year's qualification.
It is usually best to pool your status credits to someone else after you reach 1000 until you reach platinum. Don't worry-you will still be credited the eligible sectors (which you need to fly yourself and cannot be pooled).
If you are 'points rich', any seat awards (but not standard reward seats) on VA flights count as an eligible sector

Not necessarily. Don't forget, if you obtain enough SC's you can gift Gold or Platinum VA status to another person (I gave mine to my mum).

Companion Gold and Platinum membership
Platinum members can now share Velocity benefits and rewards with a friend or family member. Once you have achieved the required number of Status Credits to maintain Platinum within your membership period you can gift a Gold or Platinum membership to a companion of your choice. Simply earn an additional 500 Status Credits to gift a Gold membership, or earn an additional 1,000 Status Credits to gift a Platinum membership*.

Thanks. I realise I am confused on this.
I assumed that as the T&Cs talk about earning to maintain platinum and gives 800/1300 credits as the required numbers that the companion offer was only relevant after you had achieved platinum once.
Not sure how they define 'earn during benefit period'- do you have to get 1300 more after attaining platinum or just have an SC balance of 1300 after attaining platinum?
If it is the latter I can see that with the rolling system, the extra SCs could have a useful purpose in your own account.
I'm sure there is someone who will 'un-confuse' me

Once you have Platinum, you no longer have a rolling system, you simply have 12 months to re-qualify from the date of obtaining Platinum. Once you've obtained 1000SC's, you're platinum. Once you receive 800, you're re-qualified for the next year. If you 'turn platinum' and then earn another 500 SC's, you can gift gold to someone. Make it 1000 more and it's platinum you can gift. Same goes for when you re-qualify, except it'll be 500/1000 after you earn your 800 for re-qual.

I do understand that but as in the OPs case, doesn't the SC tally reset to 0 after he first reaches platinum and any extra SCs over 1000 (earned before he first reaches platinum) disappear.

Basically, there are two counters with VFF - your "earn" counter and the "rolling" counter. Once you earn Platinum, the "earn" counter resets - but the "rolling" counter keeps going.

We did our first 'Sector Run' over the last two days. (Similar to the OP we had over 1000SC but no sectors flown at all)
So on Friday we did SYD-MEL, then MEL-ADL to give us 2 sectors, qualifying us for Silver. Saturday, ADL-MEL, then MEL-SYD, another 2 sectors, qualifying us for Gold, as a total of 4 sectors now flown.
We had a two hour stopover in MEL on the way back, asked at the lounge if we could come in, but the flights from the day before had not credited, so no was the answer.
Got home after midnight to see the first two flights had credited and we are now silver, with two lounge entry passes on our account.
Saturdays flights I assume will credit tonight,(Sunday) so hopefully will be 'Gold' tomorrow morning.
Interesting to see if we get the bonus miles for the Sunday flights.
Another 4 sectors flown should see us to Plat.

So now I am now confused....

My anniversary date is 6th Oct
SC Earned since last anniversary is 670
SC Balance is 1385

Mrs. Bolthead's anniversary date is 3rd Oct
SC Earned since last anniversary is 270
SC Balance is 1075

We are both Platinum at the moment.

I will make Platinum again no problems however Mrs. Bolthead will struggle unless we (or our daughter) has an unplanned overseas trip. My wife will role back to Gold...

Question: Can I gift Gold now to one of my children or do I have to wait to qualify again to Platinum. ie. 3rd Oct?

Are Velocity supposed to contact us to gift or are we suppose to contact them?

I realise this is OT but there was a theme starting here...

On Velocity you can pool Points and also SC. We flew DL DEN-NYC-DEN on Y instant upgrade to F for about same price as SYD-MEL J. 5 pax at 80 SC per sector = 800 SC for total of 10 sectors. Pooled to one pax. But unlike points which can be transferred back you cannot transfer the SC again after the first pooling. Additionally promotion to higher status level requires the pax to individually fly VA marketed flights in OZ or OS. 2 for PS, 4 for SG and 8 for WP. These cannot be pooled or transferred from elsewhere.

Is Mrs Bolthead making use of being WP? SG isn't that bad.

Yes and no.... This is her second year as WP and she would re-qualify again however she is pooling her points from her next Nth American trip to our daughter. These are double SC's as well. She mostly travels with me so the impact on her dropping to SG is not a biggy. On the other hand our daughter will re-qualify for WP and she tends to travel with her friends these days.

Well done. Enjoy

Thank you all for your help. I've reached Platinum 

Well done on reaching Platinum!

I'm in a similar situation. I picked up my second eligible sector on Monday, so I got to Silver, but I have 680 SCs (all earned in the past 6 weeks). My current forward bookings are:
- April - 560 SCs/0 eligible sectors with Etihad (bringing me to 1240 SCs but still Silver).
- June - 120 SCs/2 eligible sectors with VA (bringing me to 1360 SCs and Gold)
- December - 80 SCs/2 eligible sectors with VA (bringing me to 1440 SCs but still Gold)

Plus a not-yet-booked but almost certain additional 80 SCs/2 eligible sectors with VA in December, finally bringing me to Platinum when I get to 1520 SCs!!

Needless to say, I'm trying to get some more eligible sectors in before the above-mentioned existing bookings. However, even if I managed to accumulate 6 eligible sectors prior to my next VA trip with my family in June, it was looking like there is no way I can get to Platinum before hitting at least 1300 SCs, and therefore those extra 300+ SCs will not count towards my requalification. Very frustrating.

I hadn't thought of starting to pool to someone else in my family once I hit 1000 SCs. A problem for me is that I will go straight from 680 to 1240 on one trip. Can anyone answer the following questions:
1. If I change family pooling so everything goes to my wife, does that take effect immediately? i.e. is it possible for me to continue family pooling to myself for the first leg of my EY trip in April (EU-AUH) and then switch to my wife while we're waiting to connect in AUH?
2. Would it then be possible at some point after that (within the same year) to either start pooling back to myself again, or to just remove myself from the pool and have my wife and kids in a family pool?

If the answer to both is yes, I would be reasonably confident that I can get to Platinum and my wife can get to Gold by the end of the year.

So far as I know, the pooling takes effect on the day you set up the pool - I don't know you'd be able to change the pooling settings while in AUH so that the flight in to AUH doesn't pool but the one departing AUH does, but if the flights are on different days (i.e., flight arriving in to AUH at 10pm and next flight departing at 1am or similar), it *may* work. Never tried it, but perhaps you can and then let us know how it pans out? :p

To answer your second question, you can change the pooling settings whenever you like. :)

Another option to keep in mind is that if you're going to get 8 segments and >1500 SCs, you'll be able to gift Partner Gold to your wife.

Thanks for clarifying. I had a feeling that might be the case re question 1! Unfortunately, both flights depart on the same day local time, although they are on different days Australia time. Do you happen to know what the definition of a "day" is for this purpose? I might give it a go anyway - and if so I'll certainly report back.

Are you sure? I thought gifting Gold was only possible when you get an extra 500 SCs after retaining Platinum. And as things stand, although I'd have over 1500 SCs at the time I initially reach Platinum, my SC counter towards retention of Platinum would still start at zero. In other words those additional 500 SCs would go to waste, and I'd still need another 1300 SCs to retain Platinum and then gift Gold.

The T&Cs state:
21.3.2 When a Platinum Member earns 500 Status Credits over and above the required number of Status Credits to maintain their Platinum Membership Level (800 Status Credits) within their Benefit Period (total 1,300 Status Credits), the Member is entitled to nominate a family member or friend who is a Velocity Frequent Flyer Member to a Gold level of Membership (Companion Gold Membership).

Have I misunderstood something here?

As it happens, I'm not that bothered about being able to get Gold status for my wife, as she rarely travels without me, but it would help our points accumulation and of course get her lounge access on the odd occasion when I'm not there.

I'm reasonably confident that 1500 SCs will earn Partner Gold, but this would be a better question for other members who have more recent experience with this (when I used the partner status benefit, it was when there was an awful lot of confusion about how many SCs were required).
