Hi AFF experts , I have around 300K velocity points and planning to redeem them for travel to Italy/Europe in May 2024 ( not sure if I am already late). I have been searching on velocity portal but unable to find availability in any of the partner airlines which allow reward booking using velocity points.

It will be for two adults and a kid and we will be travelling ex-Melbourne but open to opt for Syd if there are any good deals.

Any tips or points are greatly appreciated.

I don't think 300k will cover you for three people return, even in economy. I assume you're looking for economy seats? In any case, I picked a random day in May from Melbourne to Rome and found an option for 3 people in economy on Etihad first try:

Try searching for each direction as one-ways to find availability before searching again with those dates and booking it as a return. I have had difficulties before when selecting returns without there being availability on both dates.

Some thoughts:
1. It's 75k pp one way to Milan or Rome, so you'll be able to do two people but not three.
2. Three award seats will be challenging anyway, although doable in economy.
3. Search using pointsyeah.com, and consider paying $US10 for a seats.aero subscription (note it's segment by segment).
4. The carrier charges for Singapore Air are lower than those for Qatar or Etihad.

We managed to get 2 x return J on Singapore airlines for 2 pax in June... booked right on the 330 days out or whatever it is.
