Hi,

I am looking to redeeming flight in Aug 2014 from SYD to JFK via Honolulu or LAX (If via LAX, than a combination of Virgin America/Delta/Virgin America will be use). On return from LAS, I am hoping to stop over at Honolulu for a few days before coming back to SYD.

I know this can only be done over the phone with Velocity Staff, however I have tried a few different combination quotes, dates and its seems they are all coming up as no reward flight available.

Is it too early or too late to look for reward flight for Aug 2014? Any experience or comment will be great.

Also, I do not currently have enough pts on my Velocity Reward account to make any of the above bookings. I want to find out the points require, and availability before transferring from my credit card reward program. Does not having enough points on my Velocity Reward account makes a difference when checking available reward flight?

August 2014 is definitely in the booking window if available. Most likely not released by HA or already taken.
Points needed are 45000 HnL to Sydney and about $40 tax.

I have heard seats are pretty hard to get .

Has there been an increase iv Velocity awards on HA?

We flew HNL/BNE in April & Nov 2013 & the points required were 32,500 pp plus taxes of USD52.54 pp & USD37.74 pp.

The class is "T" if checking availability on Expert Flyer & awards have to be done over the phone with VA.

No change there, still the same. Syd is in the next mileage bracket compared to Bne, so it jumps up.

I looked into a similar redemption for my wife for SYD-HNL-SYD in September and as pointed out, the number of redemption points needed was 45,000.

I checked out the HA website and they were offering discounted fares for the same period and I came to the conclusion I was better off keeping my points for longer-distance redemptions and ended up paying $1333.56 for a return ticket. The $1333.56 fare included a $110 charge for an "extra-comfort" seat for the over night SYD-HNL flight.

I've flown both business & economy with HA on the SYD-HNL-SYD flights. For a start you can't redeem VA points in business class and business class is certainly not worth the extra cost if purchasing a ticket.

I don't think you can redeem an HA flight with VA points and get an "extra-comfort" seat and I'm not even sure that you can pay the add-on cost either.
