I looked up the statistics before I posted and there are some incidents but nothing out of the ordinary. Anyway Finnair flies MD11s and they have not had a problem.

Would you say that the Q400 is a troublesome aircraft? Only SAS have had problems with them....

Thanks for the links. Very informative. It seems that MD-11s operated by Chinese airlines or Fed Ex should be avoided! Page 17 of the second link tells the story. Though it is also interesting to note that only 13% of hull-loss accidents have been attributed to the "airplane" itself.
