Referral Offers - Time to change how it is posted.

agree with most of the suggestions.

the first post should contain all the referral links (which ever order as decided by all). If possible we can also run totals of how many people applied using a particular member's link, that way the love can be spread around equally.

Definitely a step forward but 5 posts is almost not worth bothering with as a restriction in my opinion. 50 posts or something is far more reasonable as you could easily spam your way to 5 or just through a few dumb posts out, wait a month and you're off and racing to solicit referrals. But I'm glad things are being tightened up

The problem with that is someone has to collate them everyday. ;) :(

Personally I think it should be at least 100 posts and 6 months to provide referral offers. But hey the tribe has spoken .....

Totally agree, yes maybe a minimum post/time limit, the others are just hard work for the admins. By reference didn't FT have a 180 post threshold for the equivalent?

I agree. There is nothing prohibitive expecting probationary members to wait 6 months before they can solicit for referrals.

Perhaps something attached to whether any, or some ratio of 'likes' per post is also possible. Might help to weed out those who genuinely participate and are appreciated and so deserve some reward, vs. those who just dump masses of illegible nonsense on the forums...

If we used that metric I'm not sure you'd be eligible ;)

It's a complex issue working out when a member gains the right to be rewarded by other members "clicks".

Perhaps not, but keep in mind I'm talking about what other members of the community have 'liked', versus a simple click count. Might be a way of weeding out bots and bothers... but hey, I'll just get back in my 'non-established' box! :P

EDIT: adding I agree it's a complex issue, no doubt!

interesting conundrum raised here.

i'm particularly interested in if someone proactively removes their link when they reach their limit or not. given there's now 40 odd pages on that particular bonus, at what point are there wasted referrals?

I was bemused to see people who seem to have 'members' for some years but with very few posts (in one case 2 posts if I remember correctly, but a lot more now!), putting up referrals. So, I take it those people were reading, but not contributing.

And now, those newbies who got the card are posting their own links, albeit very politely.

Perhaps 100 posts and 100 days as smit suggested seems nicely symmetrical. I am sympathetic though to the mods and cannot add anything useful to assist them. If I was feeling really harsh, Id say 500 posts.

There was a time when AFF regulars engaged in banter on a referral thread and stood aside for one another if they had just already obtained a referral. Chivalry appears to be dead.
I have referred 5 from AFF, I am sure others have done far better.

If anyone wishes their posts edited to remove their referral please PM a moderator, or use the 'report a post' function with the request.

Sorry to drag up old posts, but are there any rules against or is it frowned upon to post referral links in one's signature?

Just an idea (Probably hard to implement though but) to implement a tool or image under under a person's Avatar like My Travels or FF Program to say "AMEX QANTAS Referral" or "AMEX VELOCITY Referral" or "AMEX [Insert Card Type] Referral" and they can click on that, be taken to the referrers profile page where they can read the different referral links that the members have with the different offers.

That way people who contribute more have more opportunity if referring people as opposed to people who just post the link and leave.

Quite a few people doing that already Ambo. :)

I do not think that members are getting that many referees that they need to remove their original link. My tally is 5 over 2 years.

The AFF T&Cs specifically state:

Some paid membership levels allow the member to include a "Signature" at the bottom of all their posts. This is a customised message written by the member which is typically used to provide more information about themselves and their interests. It can include include links to external websites such as their personal blogs or favorite websites. It cannot be used for commercial activity (see previous item). This includes affiliate and referral links. The only exception is if the link is to a legitimite post on AFF (such as post in our Referral forum).
