Looking forward to the outcome of this "issue" but don't think the TA should be named and shamed on a public forum. If anyone really wants to avoid them though, I'm sure a PM would suffice ;)

I am currently in the progress of attempting to obtain my refund of the duty for my six year old from Qatar. Whilst alot of the airlines are automatically refunding or contacting their passengers, Qatar is being downright difficult.

I contacted Qatar through their webpage after the trip, on the 2nd of August for a refund of the duty. I have just received the following reply

Thank you for your refund request.
We sincere apologies for the delay in our response and we thankyou for your patience and understanding.

With regards to your refund request sent on August 02 2015 withthe Booking Reference xx_X, kindly note that as per our records the ticketrequested for refund has already been used for travel.

Also we wish to inform you that through this email we can onlyprocess the refund for the unutilized tickets paid through www.qatarairways.com.

Hence, we regret to inform you that we are unable to assist youin refund for the booking reference requested.

However, would like to inform you that if you have beencommitted for the refund of the taxes we may request you to send us thecommunication so that we can investigate further.

Thank you for taking time to write to us.

So anyway, I am now replying back to the email with a copy of the eticket showing the duty paid and again quoting their own terms and conditions

Received an email this morning from our travel agent saying that after sending 'many emails to Emirates' we will be receiving a refund of $137.30. Persistence pays off - if I wasn't confident of the facts, I would have given up months ago. Travel Agent had confidently told me that we were not entitled to any refund. Both times I contacted Emirates (including in writing) they told us that we were. The learning from the situation.... always harder with a 'middle man'. If we hadn't used a travel agent, I would have been able to act on my own behalf (and I guarantee that with my own money, I am more motivated/patient/persistent than a travel agent who doesn't care).

Hi Everyone thanks for sharing your experiences - Our family just returned from a European summer holiday holiday via Heathrow and managed to get a refund for the kids tax via the travel agent thanks to this thread.

As an update, I did finally receive my refund of the departure tax. Very frustrating but worth chasing it up.

Wow, you really do find some gems of articles on this forum. I only saw this today, and our family flew out of the UK on July 2015, so it's applicable to us.

I tried replying to the booking email from [email protected] and the email bounces. The phone number also does not work. Now trying the parent company wotif.

Wish me luck.
