I have a classic reward booking on JAL Tokyo to CDG for May 29.
Fees and surcharges totaled 17000 yen.
I can cancel for a 6000 point fee but will i get the charges back?
If I opt for the voucher (which has a use by date Sept 30 2020) does it include these fees or will it just be for the points?
I've literally spent hours trying to find the answer on their website anywhere. The call centre is only taking queries about flights over the next 2 days, so no help there.
thanks!

Cancellation Conditions
  • The cancellation conditions of the original booking apply. Refer to the fare conditions for details.
  • If there are two different fare types in the booking, the more restrictive fare conditions apply.
  • If the original booking permits a refund, the value less all applicable fees, will be refunded to the original form of payment used.
  • Cancellation of Classic Flight Reward Bookings will incur a fee of 6,000 points per passenger.
  • Classic Flight Reward booking points, taxes, levies and surcharges will be refunded within 10 business days.
  • Cancellation applies to all passengers in the booking.
  • Cancellations made due to a Qantas disruption may entitle you to a refund of the unused portion of the fare and taxes.
  • Cancelations for partially travelled itineraries will require a re-assessment of travelled flights to determine the applicable refund value.
  • If a car is included in your booking, your car reservation will be cancelled. Car reservations can be made at qantas.com/cars.
  • If Qantas Travel Insurance is included in your booking, your insurance policy won’t be automatically updated with your amended travel details. Update your insurance policy with your new travel details at qantas.com/insurance.

Thanks for responding, "drivatruk". I just wasn't sure if this applied to charges made in yen obviously passed through by the partner airline. If this is the case, i will cancel rather than have a voucher with 6 mo expiry date.

Id be going along the lines of the T&C's not excluding bookings on Partner airlines and you booked a classic Reward.

yes - cancelling a QF award on partner airlines gets you back all the fees and charges. You pay the 6000 cancellation fee, unless exempt 9for example the flight is rescheduled or cancelled and you no longer take it on one of those grounds).

I'm seeing reports in the FF Facebook groups of customers with Classic Reward bookings also getting the 6,000 points cancellation fee waived. Has anyone here been successful in getting that back?

Thats what I heard announced by Qantas on reward bookings. Do you just cancel as per normal? (call or text msg). Has anyone done this yet?

Cancelled a domestic booking online and got all points back (no 6,000-pt penalty).

When I go into a Classic Reward booking (on EK) and select 'cancel', I see these words at the top of the cancellation page:

If the cancellation policy in the fare conditions that applied to your original booking allow for a refund, this will be refunded to your original form of payment, less applicable fees. For Classic Flight Reward bookings cancelled up until 31 March 2020, where your original travel date was prior to and including 31 May 2020, the usual cancellation fee of 6,000 points will be waived.

This would seem to suggest the waiver of the cancellation fee will apply to your booking for travel before 31 May.
