Hi,

I've heard some people mention its possible to get points refunded back by paying addtional money instead of getting them transferred into Travel Bank.

I find this whole TravelBank a con, it should just be refunded back to the card.

A "Travel Bank" is meaningless when no one can forsee things returning to normal and when the airlines go into administration the travel banks will be worthless. I'm in the same boat myself unfortunately :(

What are you talking about? Velocity reward seats?

The cancellation conditions for those is long standing (and thankfully consumer friendly).

Domestic is $35, international $60 and points are refunded to your velocity account. You can also use points to cover the cancellation fee. I think it's 5,000 for a cancellation...

Unfortunately when I click on cancel (or change) on my reward booking it says I must contact the call centre.

Has anyone had any luck in the past few days cancelling through the Travel Bank Credit Request Form. The response is;
"We are unable to process your cancellation at this time.

If your flight is due to depart within 24 hours, please contact our Guest Contact Centre 13 67 89. Please continue to monitor our website for the latest information."

I was able to call through at the end of last week to enquire about moving my flights or point refunds for a redemption flight.

The rep said that VA were allowing fee-free changes for international redemptions or full refunds.

A LOT has changed since last week in this space, but I'd assume this is still the case. Regretfully we weren't sure of our new dates and planned to call back this week to effect the change...didn't see the rapid international level changes coming so soon.

Looks like my points for a one way J to Haneda landed in my account this evening. Taxes not yet back on the credit card but I expect that will come within the next few weeks

I got points back for one upgrade so far. Nothing else yet. Fingers crossed!

I received a full refund of taxes & fees to my ANZ credit card today.

Anyone got any recent updates on this? I purchased flights for a family member using my points and paid cash for my own flights. I’ve accepted I’ll be stuck with travel bank for my own flights (so far only one of my flight bookings has been recorded to travel bank and its taken 3 weeks so I’m still waiting on others). For the family member I need to cancel and the website keeps saying to call the guest contact centre. Anyone managed to get cancellation and refund of points and taxes through email or something that doesn’t involve staying on hold for a long time?

if you can get refund.. do it as we are not sure how long we are in lock down situation

There's this post on another thread:
Received an email about my booking:
"Given the service has been cancelled, we’ll be returning your Points to you. If your booking was a “Points plus Pay” booking, the “Pay” portion of your booking will be refunded to original form of payment and processed within 21 business days."
I received a similar email on 21st March for a June HND award booking I had.

No sign of the points or $+++ and the booking only 'disappeared' from my bookings in the last week.

Note that "21 Business" days is effectively a calendar month so I have more than a week to go yet.

As an update to my situation, the aforementioned email was 21 March for HND flight in May, points returned 7 Apr, refund appeared on my amex maybe a day or so later (but dated 7 Apr too).

For a separate domestic booking (a paid one) for which I requested a travel bank using the online form on 24 Mar, yesterday (10 Apr) I received an email saying that a travel bank has been created. I log in and it has $0 in it, I guess there's a delay between creation of the account and their depositing of money into it (maybe Easter compounds this too).

Lo and behold, the $+++ showed up as a credit this morning (dated 16th April). Weirdly, the points have not been returned. I will get around to calling, the 70K points could be worth something going forward.

I emailed to cancel my flights Cairo-Sydney booked using points, i received an email overnight that states:
“Virgin Australia was placed into voluntary administration on the 22nd April, as a result, we have had to pause issuing all Velocity refunds while we wait for direction from our administrators. I can action your cancellation and add your booking to the queue while we wait for direction, we will be in contact once we have more information”
Looks like I may have lost my $1500 in taxes as well....

I used the webform to query why the $+++ had been refunded but not the points.

A day and a half later I received a reply from platinum@velocity.com that they were delighted to inform me the points had been refunded.

A quick check showed they had indeed.

Have you had the taxes refunded yet? I’ve finally had the points refunded for a ticket I booked for a family member but still no refund of the taxes. It’s only $90 but I still want it back - they collected the money for taxes that they’ll no longer be paying now the flights were cancelled so I don’t think they could keep the $ or travel bank it. I’ll keep checking my credit card for another day or two as the points appeared over the weekend but would love to hear more about others’ experiences.

Ozliz, nope nothing at all, I do wonder if they can keep the taxes, as its not been paid to them officially....its only been a few weeks though.
