What do we need to charge our iPad and Macbook Air in J BNE/LAX on refurbed 747? or is it just normal OZ plug?.

Yep, they take normal AU plug.

Make sure you use the MacBook Air power supply, not a higher rated one (such as from a MacBook Pro).

It's a multi-plug socket - it takes Oz/NZ, EU, US/Japan plugs. The only 'major' plug that needs an adapter for these is the UK type.

Here's a picture of the type (different aircraft):

I've had trouble getting my Macbook Air power supply to make proper contact in these sockets. Takes a lot of wiggling. Maybe it's the AU pin configuration. Next time I thought I'd try an EU adaptor to see if that helps.

And sometimes the power is not on anyway -- cabin crew have said they'll attend to it when we level out.

Oft happens - I find whacking a US/EU adaptor in fixes the issue for OZ angled pins.
