Keep in mind, that even on QF, the 9 am flight from Perth to Sydney is classified as a breakfast flight, so you would be getting a Qantas breakfast. That does not get you the same choices of hot meals that a lunch or dinner flight gets
Yep, sure. Its been a while since I took an early (<9am) flight as I hate rushing about in the morning. Last time I did though I seem to remember getting a sausage or something warm, not just cereal or hot toast or something.
In any event, I realise these types of things are quite subjective. Food of all things
We all have our preferences and no airline can run an a la carte restaurant in the galley.
Still, I suspect it wouldn't take a lot of polling to find that the target audience has some specific food and drink types in mind. Providing any food at all is where the major cost lies. The difference to the airline in providing pies rather than, or better, _in conjunction with_ vegetable fruitata's would be so minimal as to not even show on the balance sheet.
I am not sure that DJ have said they are going to be what people think of as a full service airline. They have said they are seeking a portion of the corporate market and developing a product set to get that - that does not however mean they will be providing exactly what Qantas does.
Sure. I implied that in my response though I didn't really mean to make a strong statement in relation to DJ's revamped offerings. I stated the obvious, 'its not full service' and wrongly implied that this is where they are heading.
DJ looks to be trying to gain some corporate market share by providing options outside of their traditional LCC model. If they do no more then that I think it will work for them in modern times as more and more corporates seem to be dropping J class for Y in relation to employee travel. It may become easier to convince the Boss/travel department to stump up for a good solid Y+ type of experience rather than full service J as we've come to know it in the past. Perhaps this is where DJ is really going? A J- experience perhaps rather than a Y+?
I would hope that in the future, even if a meal is extra, they have a way of bundling a meal into the price of a fare at time of booking though.
Agreed. Not only do I hate the slow ramping of cost through nickel and diming I just get tired of always reaching into my pocket. I'd prefer to state what I want up front, pay, and have my experience rolled out to me.
In my experience, the more stars a hotel is, the more likely you are to be nickel and dimed over minor things. In any case, both four and five star hotels have their place.
Heh
I understand what you mean about top end hotels. I find that very annoying I must say that nowadays even without thinking much about it I tend to make choices from amongst higher end hotels which generally use an 'all inclusive' approach to their customers. As I said above, its not really even about the money, though I am conscious of spend as most of us are. Its really about continually reaching into my pocket time after time after time.
Incidently, its been a while since I went to a non all inclusive resort. Chosen with care, all inclusives can see you happily leave your wallet and cards in the room safe and wander about having a sterling time.
You are quite right, all classes of hotel have their place, as do classes of seats and provisions of service on airlines.
Its not clear to me though, yet, what DJ is up to. Are they trying to tempt existing J customers away from QF? Is so, then the Y+ or J- experience might not be enough to do that. If, instead, they are trying to extract more business (ie; money) from existing customers, or from previously loyal QF Y pax by offering the J- experience at a really competitive price point then they may do extremely well.
