Title says it all - best we have a thread where questions can be asked / responses posted RE Regional Australian destinations.

Our June / July Euro sojourn is off the table so we will sub a couple local destinations. First off we want to take a 6 hr drive to Mallacoota mid June - any suggestions for best unit type Accom right smack in centre town?

Next destination will be Penola to cruise the Coonawarra strip by bike - but that will need to wait til border and cellar doors open up.

22yrs since we have visited Coonawarra - again advice on Accom in Penola reqd. Any intel on Merlot Verdelho? Any better in town?

We stayed in the green one and it's lovely and good location but the upstairs bedroom has is open to the downstairs. If someone was standing at the right spot downstairs they could see you wandering around. There are quite a few B&B around the area and I don't think you'll find it difficult to get something nice

Seeing NSW is the only state that accepts Victorians at this stage, and Dan the man is loosening things up a bit from Jun 1st, intend to drive up to Balranald for a couple days and explore Mungo National Park that has been on the to-do list for a couple years. From the pics, looks like amazing scenery let alone the cultural significance and associated history.

Tks VPS - not into B & B - self contained is what we want - out to brekky and dinner each day - I will report back on bookings once border control lifted

Sorry I did mean that there are heap of self contained places. I actually don't think there are many B&B except where they give you breakfast supplies.

I just booked Byron for Christmas week. $2,300 for a two-person apartment. Usual plan would be Bali, $1,200 for a pool villa including breakfast. Ahhh Australian tourism huh? Garuda had a J class airfare for $2K as well, but I'm not taking the risk.

In the nearer future I'm keen to get out to Mudgee for some winetasting.

I stayed in Merlot about 6 or 7 years ago - VPS comments regarding Verdelho being lovely, good location and upstairs bedroom also apply to Merlot. Think they‘re some of, if not the, best in the area.

Tossing up between Coolangatta and Sanctuary Cove for a couple of weeks, followed by a fortnight at Caloundra and a week or so at Noosa.

Hoping to fly to Queensland in November for Rod Stewart concert at Sirromet Winery. At this time it's a real guessing game as to it going ahead. Was planning to go to Port Douglas and Townsville after to catch up with family and friends. Apart from concert tickets no other bookings made yet.

Well my old mates Dan and Gladys have both given my trip the big blue tick for the June long weekend as long as I don't share a bathroom with someone else. So looks like the trip is a goer.

🤔😭🤬

Dan and Gladys say I can go to NSW and stay overnight (as long as I don't share a bathroom). 🚙🏩🛏 ✅

But now I find out the Ranger station is closed, and I am not allowed to do the self-drive loop within the park and all tours are stopped. ⛔🚫 ❌🚷🚳

No point in going now. 😭. Cancelled motel.

Now what to do on the long week end 🤔

I have used a bunch of LifeMiles points to book Motels for a trip to Langhorne Creek in Sep.

Hopefully everything will be open by then.

Our first trip is probably a drive to Sydney and back.
Also considering outback QLD with Quilpie and Thargomindah.

Next Tue we are off to stay at Craigs Royal Hotel Ballarat - they have some special packages available:

Called to make res and was told if stay 2 nts then the extras of dinner for 2, $50 bott wine + free cooked brekky next morn only applicable to 1st nt and not 2nd night - OK I will book 1st nt in my name and the Ette will call up and book 2nd nt in her name B2B then freebies will applicable to both nts - deadly silence on other end of phone .......................... I then wen on to explain how ridiculous that marketing plan was and that how hard it is to get any guests staying with them at the moment but if they honour freebies both nts I will book .................... 2 mins later YES that is ok Sir - we will hoour freebies both nts. Can you believe this? Talk about some wet behind the ears job exp kid let loose developing marketing strategies!

We are off to Merimbula in September. Whale watching is on the agenda plus a side trip to Rutherglen for a few days.
