Regional Express Delays/Cancellations

Monday 9 October has ZL3151 (0655 hours ABX down to MEL, SAAB450B VH-EKX that was in the sky at 0732, about 25 late) arriving at roughly 0831, 36 minutes late.

VH-SBA on ZL767, the 0755 hours SYD - ABX did not take off until 0911; arrival should be at 1032 hours, 72 minutes tardy.

ZL353 from TRO to NTL - not sure why anyone would bother: surface transport would be much cheaper and not much slower over this distance, although it continues to SYD after 20 minutes in NTL - the 0630 hours took off at 0932; arrival should be at 1038 hours, 213 minutes late. Aircraft is VH-ZRH.

The SYD - PKE ZL518 (VH-ZRC) took off at 1015 despite an 0900 timetabled departure. Arrival should be at 1114, 69 late.

So I had a Rex flight this AM from Burnie to Melbourne delayed due to the PA system not working (ha!), only 60mins delay thankfully until another plane took its place. However, I subsequently missed a flight booked on a separate itinerary from Melbourne to Canberra (QF). I thought because it was with Rex and i had a separate ticket that Qantas were going to tell me I was in for paying for another ticket... but I got put straight on the next QF flight 40 mins later- did I just get lucky?

Jamesaurus, it must have been your intelligence.

On Tuesday 24 October, the 1845 hours early evening MEL - WGA (ZL3286) with VH-ZRM was in the sky at 1924. Its arrival is predicted at roughly 2031, 46 minutes behind the schedule.

On Thursday 26 October, ZL3151 (0655 hours ABX - MEL that took off at 0725, SAAB340B VH-KRX) should arrive at 0837, 42 minutes late with a fairly brief holding pattern east of Alexandra, Vic not having helped.

The MQL - MEL ZL3653 (0630 hours that took off at 0657) is arriving at 0820, half an hour late. This may not seem much but with the Tullamarine Freeway and CityLink congested (albeit this week with an extra lane added) it may make the difference between being on time for an 0915 hours MEL CBD meeting and arriving late, or having to cancel the first meeting.

UPDATE: VH-KRX is returning to ABX as ZL3152 with this 0825 hours ex MEL becoming airborne at 0919. Arrival should be at 1019, 54 minutes behind time.

ZL463 (VH-ZLK, the 0830 hours SYD down to GFF that took off at 0925) should arrive at 1052, 52 minutes late.

In further on 26 October 2017, ZL472 from GFF to SYD, the 1640 hours that took off at 1710 with VH-EKX should arrive at 1830, half an hour tardy.

The 1710 hours DBO - SYD (ZL833 - VH-TRX) took off at 1750; arrival looks like 1852, 32 minutes behind schedule.

ZL179 (1725 hours OAG short hop down to SYD, VH-RXE) was airborne at 1808 hours. Arrival should be 50 minutes late at 1905 hours.

Wednesday 1 November 2017 has ZL767, the 0755 hours SYD down to border city ABX that took off at 0825 (SAAB340B VH-ZRC) likely to arrive 32 minutes late at 0952 hours.

VH-ZLW on ZL3554, the Thursday 2 November 0630 hours BWT to MEL did not take off until 0704 hours. Arrival should be at roughly 0825 hours, 40 late, showing once again how further time can be lost during the busier periods at airports like MEL if flights do not take off from their origin very closew to time, and hence miss their slot.

The 0630 hours PKE - SYD (VH-NRX) took off at 0656 hours. Expected arrival is 0757, 32 minutes late.

Monday 6 November is continuing to see heavy storms around Sydney although by 1030 hours the worst looked to have gone out to sea southeast of the city. ZL661 (0845 hours SYD - WGA, SAAB340B VH-NRX) took off at 1030 so it will be about 90 minutes late arriving in Wagga Wagga: the scheduled arrival is 1000.

ZL317 (0935 hours morning LSY down to SYD) tlook off at 1014. VH-ZLR should arrive at roughly 1158 hours, 43 minutes late.

ZL917 from MQL is arriving in SYD at 1431 hours, 46 minutes late with VH-ZJS.

On Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 7 November 2017, SAAB340B VH-VNA has had an ';interesting' day.

After arriving in SYD as ZL321 ex GFN, it operated the scheduled 0900 hours SYD - OOM, taking off at 1226 and landing near the snowfields at 1321. It then operated the short OOM - MIM sector as ZL717, taking off at 1341 and landing at 1401. ZL718, the timetabled 1110 hours from MIM to SYD was airborne at 1435 with expected arrival at about 1516 hours mid afternoon, 171 minutes tardy. Yesterday this aircraft had been more than five hours late on ZL332 from SYD to LSY that diverted initially to GFN, so life has not been dull for this conveyance.

ZL659 (0640 hours SYD - WGA, SAAB340B VH-RXE) on Thursday 9 November took off at 0803 despite it being due to arrive in the inland city at 0755 hours. It should arrive at 0849, 54 minutes behind time.

The 0645 hours WGA - MEL, ZL3257 (SAAB340B VH-KRX) did not become airborne until 0745 with arrival suggested at 0853, 53 minutes late.

ZL3257 on Friday 10 November, the 0645 hours WGA down to MEL (SAAB340B VH-RXX) took off at 0728 so arrival is estimated at 0841 hours, 41 minutes late.

The 0630 hours MQL - MEL, ZL3653 (VH-TRX) was in the sky at 0722, so predicted arrival has changed to 0845 hours, 55 late.

Whether these two late flights are due to ATC instituting 'controlled departures' and therefore not allowing the planes to be cleared for taxiing and takeoff until many minutes after scheduled departure, or some other reason, is unclear.

ZL3557 (0845 hours MEL - BWT, VH-ZRH) was in the sky at 0930 with arrival suggested at 1036 hours, 41 minutes late.

In further on Friday 10 November 2017, ZL3469 (0840 hours morning flight from MIM across to MEL that was airborne at 0924, VH-KRX) looks to be arriving at roughly 1043, 38 minutes behind time.

31OCT17 ZL-161 OAG-SYD was delayed by approx 3 hours and departed about 09:30.

ZL3752 took off at 0732 hours on Tuesday 14 November despite its 0630 hours departure timetable. VH-EKD should arrive MEL (ex MGB) at about 0918 hours, 73 minutes late.

A fair swathe of Victoria and southeast South Australia have had a dump of rain overnight (that is continuing on the morning of Thursday 16 November) with Mildura for instance recording 54.2 millimetres so ZL flights are late.

VH-RXX on ZL3554, the 0630 hours BWT - MEL took off at 0748 hours. Arrival is expected at 0854 hours, 69 late.

ZL3653, the 0630 hours MQL - MEL (VH_TRX) is worse as it was not in the sky until 0808; arrival has become a predicted 0932 hours, 102 minutes late.

The early morning WGA - MEL ZL3257, the 0645 hours took off at 0847, so VH-OLL should arrive at 0935 hours, 95 minutes behind time.

The 0815 hours MEL - MQL, ZL3656, is expected to depart at 0910 hours. ZL3152, the 0825 hours to ABX should be off blocks at 1010, making it a day when for a CBD to CBD trip the 0830 hours XPT train ex Southern Cross would be faster.

ZL3763 (0835 hours MEL - MGB) is suggested as departing an hour late, while ZL3557 (0845 hour MEL down to BWT) is not expected to commence its trip until 1020 hours. ZL3258 from MEL to WGA, the 0900 hours should depart 70 late.
