Went into the rocky qc for the first time the other day with a work colleuge and I was shocked and frankly embarrassed for QANTAS, it was a joke let me make a little list.

It smelt like dog or wet carpet.
It was dark and felt like I was in a broom closet.
Coffee was instant and looked like a BIGW jug, no urn or better yet a coffee machine.
No computer facilities although it looked like they did have something but when windows 95 became obsolete threw them out.
Snacks consisted of a couple of packets of biscuits.
I didn't even see a tv, although I was only in their for 30seconds due to the smell.
I can give them a few ideas but should I bother.
I'd rather the place not exist if it's that dodgey.

Sorry had to vent.

Its pretty average and yes it has a TV, here is the fridge last time I was there, it was well stocked

Hopefully they will look at ROK once GLT and MKY are done. In all fairness we need to remember it was under water for some time over Xmas and throw in the BNE floods along with Yasi and you do have a shortage of tradies!

I was there on Sunday. While it is no QP in a major city it isn't that bad. Mackay is better IMHO.
As to the snacks there are lots, though it might have just had a few ppl through - as the two times I have been there recently had:
Fruit Cake
Museli Bars
Crackers
Two types of cheese
Tim Tams
Macadamia Shortbread
Pretzel Snack
Roasted Almond and Cashew Snack
I don't drink coffee so can't comment on it.
They don't have small bottles of flat water though they do have bubbly mineral water.
They have a TV on the wall - the same as flatscreen one in Mackay.
As to the smell, didn't have one on Sunday morning or the time before.
I travel with my own laptop, so don't use the computers - but in the three times I have been there had no issue connecting net to my idevice and my macbookpro.

It is small and dark, I will give you that. I would have gone straight to the desk and told them to restock and give the place a Glen20 spray.

Well the runway was under, and I don't think u need a tradie to buy a urn or at least stock the fridge, I was there first thing in the morning and it looked similar to this maybe a couple extra beers due to the being padlocked.
:)

It was a little more than just the runway:

I was the first one in there on Sunday it had a strange smell, like wet carpet or something maybe the air con was just switched on.
And being the first one there maybe they didn't stock up yet.
I have a iPad so contection doesn't bother me but i had to print something that was a pain.
Maybe asking for one computer and a printer is to much.
I'm flying virgin next time so it won't be a issue.
Which brings me to my next problem, virgin not checking in at other airports that's for another forum and another day.

A BIGW jug  What not even a Myer jug? How very dare they!

Maybe the airport manager was collecting EDR points.

Ive got a rough idea what the floods were doing being in the thick of it in the lockyer valley.
I'm just saying the floods shouldn't be a excuse for something as simple as a urn so u don't have to line up waiting for the jug to boil.
it's seem like a fairly busy regional lounge after all.

I like how the only thing left is cans of gold, well that's gold lol

They normally have a flask (your BigW thing), given you were there on a Sunday morning I suspect perhaps they dont do the full setup for weekends, the floods account for the smell (which was your first rant) and not the flask obviously, lets not confuse the issue. It sounds like you had high expectations for your first visit, which I presume it was given the ROK QP has been like that for 10 years or so, at least when it comes to refreshments.

I arrived around 8.45am and it was all spanky and set up then... It is restocked and cleaned by JQ staff FWIW

Ive been using that lounge for 8-10 years - the only thing that has changed is the view. The smell was not there a couple of weeks back, nor any of the previous visits I have had, however, perhaps overnight without air movement, the musty wet carpet smell returns. This I would imagine is a humidity issue rather than residual water from the flooded Fitzroy!

The coffee thing - Urn, kettle - an extra 3 minutes of my life waiting for the kettle to boil, and the fact I will be drinking a mass produced instant coffee vs a mass produced filter coffee does not overly worry me

Maybe a coffee machine like at all the other lounges.
Maybe I was just tired, and craving at least a flat white from a machine and some toast to get me thru to brissy.
Guess I'll wait and see what virgin have to offer at makay before I do any more comparisons.
Nobody else thinks these regional lounges should provide some business facilities and a half decent coffee.

No mate but I feel without compitition comes complacency.
Competition is good for all customers involved, virgin offering a regional lounge might force qantas to improve it's product.
I always fly QF from CNS to BNE cause i love that lounge, even if virgin is cheaper.
O if virgin wants to bump me to gold I won't complain either. Lol. :)

I was in the Mackay regional lounge last Sat morning. First time there. Sure it doesn't quite meet the First lounges standard, but, after getting the wife a real coffee from outside, we then got to enjoy what for me is a huge benefit. We sat with our kids (who love the little fruitcake, etc snacks) in a peaceful secluded area away from the hordes of tattoed riff raff that were infesting the main departure lounge. I value that very highly.
