Hoping someone might have had experience with this. Just applied for platinum rewards card, already have the qantas discovery card. Applied to have it changed over and got rejected? Seems a bit odd.

Most likely because I got 28 degrees card in July and also anz 50k point offer in August, but how annoying! Especially considering how it was a straight swap and they would have got $80 out of me - no change to credit limit

Anyone had any luck appealing this or should I just wait 6 months before applying again?

unlikely you can appeal it, probably due to too many hits on your credit score

It never ceases to amaze me how you can do a simple product switch with the banks but Amex makes you apply from scratch rather than transfer products on the same terms.

AMEX let me convert a velocity gold into platinum edge without incident over the phone

I enquired with them earlier in the year about how to change through chat I believe and they said I must make a new application... from everything i have read it says the same - must apply for new product, you cannot simply be swapped to diff account. Commonwealth Bank on the other hand, only too happy. I think my credit card has changed about 4 times within last 2 years.

Might call Amex back and ask if I can be swapped over. Seems so ridiculous really... Unless they are going to cancel my discovery i don't see what their reason is for rejecting transfer

Any points on offer?

What do you mean? As in sign up? It's 5k at the moment but I'm not sure I'd be eligible either way. Just worked out my supermarket + petrol spend would make it more worthwhile for me to use this card

Yes sign on bonuses. If Amex have given you a signon bonus recently then perhaps they are reluctant to hand out another. Just a thought.

Which is strange because that's not the case with Amex in the US. I have a US Amex and change between them just over the phone - although for some reason they DO want new applications for the US Hilton Amex cards.

I have had the card for like 2 years. Just got my qantas bonus the other day for finally booking with my amex but yea, would say it's more likely related to my recent applications. Just annoying given they aren't making more funds available to me, balance is always paid before due date, etc etc
