I have never travelled without my Bose but I’m finding the weight of them tiresome. Am considering for the first time of relying on the CX J variety. Can anybody advise the quality of them please? This is a long haul JFK to SYD and as I’m sensitive to noise NC is the most important.

They will be adequate.

One issue I've found several times is with the plug. Wires can be 'stretched' so the sound cuts out. Have to jiggle it to make it work again.

I just happened to go to a Bose store at Oculus in NYC. I compared the NC abilities of the in ear and the over the ear option. I did think the over the one better. I agree with the “80% of the job”. What do you think of the version that has the ‘necklace’ with the battery inside?

the CX J ones won't fully cover over your ears... IMO sub-par noise cancelling abilities.... compared with the Bose. I bought a cheap ipad mini soft case, enough to hold the Bose QC35 II without scratching it.
