Renew Points Club / Points Club Plus - worth it ?

So, I had (have) points club plus, but my year has just rolled over.

Currently waiting for my 100 status credits rollover to post (points club plus perk) but given I apparently keep all of the perks for my new Qantas year, is it worth getting the points needed to renew either club or plus?

Do I get more Hotel and Wine discounts if I hit the numbers, and would I in fact get the status roll over at the end of my new Qantas year even if I don't (given I apparently keep the perks for the full year).

All thoughts and info appreciated.

Brian

Only you can decide if its worth it. Do you get value out of PC+ that you would not without it?

Assuming you qualified for PC+ in FF year ending 30th Sept 2023, it is true your benefits carry forward until end Sep 2024. But requalifying this year is about having PC/+ for the year after (from 1 Oct 2024 - 30 Sept 2025) - what does your travel look like for that period?

If nothing much planned for then you could let your PC+ expire, then start the journey to requalifying again from 1st Oct 2024 next year; just means for however long that takes you wont have any of the PC or PC+ benefits, as there is no soft landing on PC.

Personally I think PC is the sweet spot due to being able to earn SCs on reward flights.

If you fly J (or are already gold or above) the Qantas Pub membership that comes with PC+ is wasted as you already have lounge access. The SC roll-over is good but for me the cost to earn PC+ would be more than what it would take to earn100 SCs by flying.

I qualified for PC 5 weeks into my new year in December 2021.

I will lose that at the end of this month not even getting a third of the requirement this year. What earn there was, was simply organic earn from travel, red planet, wellbeing and not much else.

So, have had it for 22 months for that initial 150k.

As a WP the SC earn from award travel, wine and hotel vouchers are the things of use to me.

I did not get additional vouchers after 12 months but SC earn continued

I have no interest in PC+, the 100 SC would be merely a blip.

I plan to do it again from next month getting up to 2 years of PC for 150K qualifying earn.

I have done the same as you! Also still waiting for my status credit roll-over.

If you requalify you will get the perks and vouchers but not until OCT 2024 when your current PC+ will expire. What you receive will of course be respective of the level of PC you get to this current membership year and as Lynda said, you will have the membership year Oct 2024-25 to use these.

My anni is Sept and I achieved PC in same month in 2022 due to a credit card bonus landing straight after the reset. Intentionally applied for 2 more credit cards for the bonuses every 2 other months to achieve PC+ in April 2023.

As I am a lowly bronze, PC+ allowed my family and myself to use the lounge every holiday and will continue to until Sept 2024. After which, I will start applying credit cards again and use comp invites in the meantime.

Hence PC+ is valuable for me. If you are at a status that does not require PC+ perks, then no real need to chase it.

For me it's all about the 100 sc rollover. If I came 100 SC short of renewing WP I would kick myself for not putting in the marginal extra effort it was this year to hit PC+. Next year a bit more complex but think I have a pathway to getting there again.

The first question is, how easy is it to earn PC or PC+ for you.

Then it becomes a question if the 100 SC rollover is worth it or not for the next year.

Finally how much flying on Qantas you're doing and if you have gold (and above) or not.

This should form the basis of your answer as to whether you should get PC / PCP or not.

My aim is to maximize the points earn through my normal expenditure. You can leverage significant earn, plus a new credit card or two, and PC+ just falls into your lap each year.

In 23/24 I’ll get to LTG and the race to accumulate SCs is over (LTP is simply unachievable) so my strategy changes to using points for CFRs. I’ll manage to requalify for P1 in 23/24 (which will be nice for the extra service, which is phenomenal) and that will maintain me as P1 through 24/25.

But once I get to 2025/26 I simply won’t be able to maintain P1, and my aim will be to retain Platinum each year and the 100SC rollover from PC+ will help with that as will the SC earn from PC/PC+.

I like Points Club because I get Status credits on QFF rewards bookings. It all helps towards status for next year.
Technically all classic award bookings operated by Qantas be it booked through QFF or a partner like AA or BA

The 10% off wine club purchase plus the $100 in wine vouchers for points club plus is a reasonable return I reckon - particularly if you use the vouchers on the wine club mixed cases that come with 30K bonus points - and remarkably they apply the 10% discount pre voucher!

Excuse my naivety, what extra things are you doing to get PC+?
Doesn't it just come (or not) through your expenditure, credit cards etc.

Credit card primary. And churn onto a new card if need be for the sign on off. Outside that the wine club is a good way to score big chunks of points (20-30k at a time for the mixed case specials) that count towards points club / pc+. Also Woolworths good for at least 10K points a year. ALL and other hotel schemes, BP (pretty mean offerings), car hire - all adds up. Oh and the health and well-being app probably worth a few K per year.

Yep, apart from churning CC bonuses there are those who have a shed load of spend on their business (and personal cards) that get that additional 200k above base PC.

I got relatively close last year but it’s tough if you don’t have those huge spends or churns.

I only have Points Club, (work travel restrictions), however Woolworths gift cards at 20X points are another great way to increase QFF points. I only buy cards I will use so nothing wasted, all gain. Woolworths publish their catalogue on line each week & always have some gift card promotions. There are restrictions, I usually purchase 10x $100 cards $1K cards=20K Everyday rewards points=10K QFF points(PC). A nice boost every couple of months.
