This suits this forum but is Amex related

I rely on my Amex Plat Charge card insurance for Australian rentals. I am going to start renting from Europcar, as getting prestige rentals from Hertz is just too hard now, they are pretty much always Sold Out

So the T&C on the Amex website is

"Rental Vehicles with a retail purchase price in excess of $70,000 or vehicles over twenty (20) years old." (are not covered)

My most common rental will be the Audi A4 Avant, and the RRP on the Audi website is $66375 but of course that is without any option etc!

So, how do I know if I would be covered, as I don't really want to pay $66 extra for the insurance through Europcar..

Any thoughts or better insurance options that I could purchase ?

Thanks, a great option at $24 but doesn't cover cars where the excess is more than $2400, there is an excess of $350...

Excess for the Audi's with Europcar is $3500 :(

Might be worth looking at purchasing an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy....I know I'd rather spend a few hundred on one of those (which generally have a 4k'ish excess cover) than find out that the AMEX one isn't going to cover you. (seems like quite a loophole especially given its so ambiguous as far as determining value of vehicle).

Indeed, I am currently pricing out some annual multi-trip insurance policies, as I need something to replace my Amex insurance shortly anyways!

But yes they seem to cover rental car excess up to $6000 which is perfect

The one I use for my corporates is QBE/Toursafe which is around $320 (excluding US), or $560 (including), though I'm sure you can probably find cheaper online.

Thanks, I have used QBE for family members/friends before.

Just had a look and I can get Australian travel insurance for $178 for the whole year, and it covers rental vehicle excess to $4000

Excess of $200, which can be reduced to $0 for a total yearly cost of $232 :)
