Hey guys,

Its been a while since i rented a car in UK. and Geez the prices are now super steep.

either that or i am doing something wrong. also difficult to get a mid or large SUV.

Anything better than netflights? i dont think netflights offers are as good anymore either in terms of insurance.

Thanks in adv!

I hired a car for on two occasions last October for visits to Scotland and Cornwall and used Hertz with no problems. Except a puncture in the Outer Hebrides but that was for me to fix anyway.

I found Hetz Au and Avis Au were much cheaper than their respective UK sites.

I went with Hertz Au and prepaid mainly because their locations suited me. (i.e. Truro station yard)

Also Avis Au (though not Avis Uk) has the horrible habit of quoting extra low on the first page and adding fees and taxes on the second page. So I was able stand on principle as well.

I have just made two dummy bookings tonight and the same still happens.

Interesting still the Qantas car hire link seems even cheaper than both tonight.

so what did you do about the fees and taxes or just didnt rent from them?

Thanks for the tip on qantas car hire. i will check it out.

I am also cognisant of the potential to have to pay for imaginary damage to the car so will ideally have a solution to that as well..

I didn't hire from them. The price was a little bit more than hertz in total thougth not enough to sway a decision I just object to not being upfront with the full price. But Hertz also had a depot that fitted my itinerary.

I always take photos before and after a rental. But I have never had any any false repair claims.
At the Inverness depot they checked it while we waited for their shuttle to the airport airport. The man came in and told the booking desk it was all OK. In fact Hertz Inverness were good they lady who did our intial paper work and gave us the keys, provided her mobile niumber in case we ever needed to contact them.
In Truro the yard attendant said just park and go direct to the train as the office was on the other side of the station.

sounds like great honest service which seems uncommon.

I got burnt in germany even after agreeing the car was fine as i stayed there whilst they checked.

How long do you want the hire?

Ditto

With me Hertz AU is still cheaper. 211 GBP vs 286 GBP for a comparable car. But I do have access to a good corporate discount rate that I use with Hertz.
