Just wondering how everyone was going to either retaining or obtaining P1
As you need to average 300 SC per month it can be a tough task.

By end of May - 2035 SC (half way through my QFF year). Of which 600SC on non-QF flights (AY/BA)

Two heavy months of DOM Y travel on QF coming up - May 550 SC & June 440+ SC

So will probably make P1 again - although IMHO still have difficulty seeing the great value of it especially when I travel mainly domestic. Have not experienced any special in-flight treatment or even a welcome from the CSM...(although the email/phone support is excellent).

Half way to DJ WP - May see if I get there by end Sept as well :)

Esquire... sounds like a lot of flying. Approx how many flights per month?

i reached P1 in early March, with 4 months of my QF year to go. (More importantly I requalified plat with DJ/VA in March too. :)) I have 1620 of QF travel booked for August to December so should make P1 again for 2013/2014.........if I want to.

P1 is not particularly inspiring unfortunately, so I am currently rethinking my strategy for 2013.

Interesting to read the comments as to being underwhelmed, I am currently sitting on 1950 SC with 7 and a half months to go, I will easily retain this year and I too am rethinking my strategy after reaching 3600 this year ( this will also give me LTG so what's left to chase?)

What is everyone's opinion?

Do I switch to Singapore and chase PPS? Most of my trips are J class around Asia, so points and SC come quiet easily.

Would be interested to hear of people's thoughts and experiences.

I've been P1 since launch, which gave me ~16 months of P1 straight up.

No QF flights lined up although I could retain it in under 6 months no problem. We just bought a UK social network, so a lot of AU/EU travel on the cards.

Virgin Plat requal is in the bag - will have taken 2 months thanks to our new travel policy which means paid J domestic.

P1 is not particularly inspiring unfortunately, so I am currently rethinking my strategy for 2013.

^ Have to agree with you. The phone service and management behind the scenes is impeccable and flawless. It's the benefits & flying part that let it down.

Should be no problem. I'll hit 3200 next week with 5 months to go.
Im not sure I want to have a strategy beyond this. I thought about chasing another programme but then thought about the implications of flying low status to do this.
That said, P1 still needs additional benefits re lounge access or upgrades to make it special.

Currently I am on track, 2 and half months into my QFF year. But don't think I'll be able to keep it up.

It is hard to predict my travel one month in advance let alone 10 months. I only really travel Qantas domestically or transtasman. The international destinations I typically travel to aren't served well by Qantas. I think the rest of this year my travel is going to change from domestic to international. So I am unlikely to make 3600 again. Although 1200 should not be a problem.

The benefits of P1 are just not worth the hassle of going out of the way to use Qantas.

My brother is well on the way & will easily earn his WP1 status (in around 7 months) as are a good few of his work mates......loves rubbing my nose in it as well:(

From the sounds of it there are quite a few Rio Tinto workers in the WP1 group. He is based in Perth and commutes to multiply sites every week - full freight SC earning flights every time.

Ranges from 2 to 6 sectors a week at the moment - and I am just about to start commuting PER-CBR every week (plus the additional side trip to TSV) until end of June. Should slow down a bit after that (although I was told that last time...!)

And as for DOM Op-ups - ***drum-roll*** 1 this year...... MEL-SYD.

It took me just over 6 months to requalify. Hard to predict the future - I've got a trip next week but no travel planned after that (not an unusual situation). Op-up situation seems to have got worse if anything - none since P1 introduced. I wonder if the new upgrade process is having an effect.

+1

I easily exceed the SC required each year, but as i am based outside Australia it is usually far easier to book through other airlines, even if flying QF metal. So probably wont obtain WP1 ever. Had thought of doing the bookings thru QF, but I just cant see any benefit that attracts me.

The way I see the P1 benefits is simply that it is good service to help resolve flight flapups. Am not whinging, have always loved QF and know that they do some very good work. It is just that personally the whole P1 revelation has underwhelmed me.

It has taken me 4 months to requalify for WP, & thanks to Qantas for the double sc offer i will make WP1 with the rest of my membership year. I'de be interested to know if any WP1's out there have had more Op-up's since P1 came in. On average as a WP i probably get 1 op'up every 10 flights.

IMHO

Attaining WP1 is a hard retaining it is a real accomplishment.

I have a mate who made WP1 but retaining will not happen as trying to keep that year's schedule will bring on a divorce.

I would have to agree with that. To get P1 you would have to fly for at least 200-300 hours in year on QF flight numbers. That does not include the other time you spend away while travelling.

For most flights one SC is typically earned for approximately every $10 spent (excluding status runs) to get P1 you (or someone) is spending at least $36,000 per year on your flights.

Missed out on P1 by 110 SCs last year.

This year making sure i retain both QF and DJ WP.

Flew 1600 QF SCs last month. Another 400 this week (in SYD F lounge now).

So it's looking good with requal 4 months away. But i have to get DJ WP too so i will concentrate on that first. I think i might miss P1 but from the sounds of it, i am not missing much.

I received P1 at the launch (Dec '11). I'm just over 5 mths into my membership year, and have clocked just over 1,900 SCs (with approx 550 on non-QF metal). Am on track for renewal, but most of my current travel is domestic for the next couple of mths. Would make it easily with a double SC promotion (at any time), but have not received an offer, so on current projections, will fall 400-ish short by the end of the year. Have to say, though, that I have also been underwhelmed by the program.

I have received a couple of upgrades, which may or may not have been related to my status - best one was from J - F to the UK, but otherwise a few domestic (MEL-BNE, MEL-SYD), which are neither here nor there (I travel J to PER anyway). The rest of the "benefits" are fairly irrelevant.

The best promoted aspect, which is the additional availability of classic reward seats, has been useless for me, as I'm running at 0 from 3 attempts to get seats, so pretty useless based on my limited sample.

The epiqure membership is a waste of money and I would not otherwise join - their wine prices are generally 10% higher than I can get from my usual source anyway - again, no bargains there.

If I came really close to requal (ie < 100 SC), I might try a status run, but not otherwise.

Even an average year of travel for me will give me WP+ (ie >2,400 SCs), so not sure where the additional benefits really are. If we really are the elite of the elite, then QF does no treat us the same way that its peers do with their very top groups (eg Cathay Diamond++)

Probably because the great majority of CX elite wear suits not high vis shirts;)

Have to agree with a lot of you guys...P1 has been an whole lot of marketing BS and empty promises...when you really break it down what do you really get over and above Plat? Considering you need to fly 3 x over the standard requal rate it's just not worth it. I have really seen nothing tangible. And so much for those "special" invites and gifts - where are they??? has anyone received anything?
Onboard only on 2 flights had 2 very nice CSMs who simply stated "thank you so much for flying with us so often - we appreciate it" - that's really all it takes...but on other fligths nothing really...
