Retaining Platinum Status without flying Qantas

Them the rules. I will take a flight for you as a charitable gesture

Thank you appreciate the gesture. I will be flying to SYD-CBR return during my only day in Oz next month as a segment run. I feel that going to such lengths to retain WP is probably an unhealthy dependence.:)

Probably not the most extreme thing people here might have done to attain/retain their status.

That is nothing compared to some of the stories.

Some people do status runs to get status just in case that status comes in handy sometime in the future....

And to answer your post topic, you sure can can retain Platinum status without EVER stepping on board a Qantas plane   ;)

How does this work, I thought QF were very strict on this...

Also it only needs to be Marketed so QF392 which is a FJ plane does qualify according to my activity statement. So you don't need to be on QF or JQ metal, just marketed.

Not that anyone here would suggest breaking the law.......;)
ejb

Only a contractual breach - not a law broken.

Ha! I like the way you think. Not a bad option I suppose. Thanks

Obviously I personally believe this to be a heinous act and am only repeating what I heard...

Like flying LHR-DXB-LHR on a turnaround so I could read Harry Potter 7 in peace and comfort?

Have you tried calling QF?

Is there any experience with JQ / 3K Jetsaver fares being counted as one of the 4 sectors?

A recent 3K flight I did came through on my activity statement without points showing (must have entered the QFF out of habit :) ).

For a start the segment must be "Eligible" and hence earn QFF points/SC's before it can be counted.
20.1.5 The travel required in each Membership Year to attain or retain Silver, Gold or Platinum status level must include a minimum of four Eligible Flight Segments where Qantas, QantasLink or a Jetstar Airline is the Marketing Carrier.
"Marketing Carrier" in this context means a QF/JQ/3K/VF flight number on the ticket regardless of the operating "metal".

Note, AFAICT, the rule has been modified in some time in the last few months to read "a Jetstar Airline" rather than Jetstar.

Here's the equivalent rule from three years ago:
18.1.5 The travel required in each Membership Year to attain or retain Silver, Gold or Platinum status level must include a minimum of four Eligible Flight Segments on Qantas, QantasLink or Jetstar.

No I haven't. I probably would have a good shot of retaining WP as I am only 1 segment short. But I have a spare day in sydney so flight to CBR will take the decision away from QF.

I presume that you have been using your WP status on the other OW carriers to access to various facilities. Please remember if you don't fly the 4 segments, not only will you not get WP status again, but you won't be getting any status except NB. So you will lose access to all privileges on the other OW carriers.

Given all the flying on other OW carriers, have you considered letting your QF status go in your next membership year, and gaining an equivalent status elsewhere? You will then still have access to the QF facilities, etc, when you are in Aus.

Is this correct? Is there a hard landing for failing the 4 sector rule? In all other instances there is only a soft landing.

As serfty may say there is acecdtotal evidence to suggest that it is a hard landing as you have not really qualified for any status level by not getting the 4 sectors.

ISTR a report or three on FT of such a hard landing being experienced.

Personally I feel the 4 segment rule is too easy. It should more like 10 or 20 segments to attain/retain Platinum.

Using the same logic - maybe we should say that CX MPDM should not be allowed in the QF F lounge or a WP not allowed in the Wing F lounge in HK?
