Following the Lock and then Deletion of a Thread I started earlier today - which I thought was in good faith - I reluctantly announce my retirement from Australian Frequent Flyer and thus will not be back. I will not be participating in this years Global Corporate Challenge for the AFF Team but am happy to have started the challenge idea back in 2009, I hope this continues in the years to come for a very good cause.

I am extremely grateful for all the hints / tips / ideas / strategies that I have learnt from all of you, over the past 2.5 years that I have been a member here. Without you guys, I wouldn't have earnt a tonne of points, nor would I have flown some wonderful premium cabins, like on SQ F and CX F or eventually reach WP - which I will be doing at the end of September 2010.

I am also happy to have met some of you, became friends with, and even shared a few drinks or two with at 2 of the 4 AFF gatherings and many other locations in this wide world of ours.

Good luck with where your future lies, happy travelling and may it bring you loads of memories.

Alan

Alan,

Without having any idea what the issue was about I am of course unable to comment.

I'm sad to to hear you are leaving and can only offer my best wishes for the future.

sorry mate, you have a few years service left before we accept your retirement...

The value of answers you get certainly outweigh any negatives.
I use the code 397 on my RACWA for AAA discounts on accommodation in the US.
We learnt how to pay BAS at the Tax Office for frequent flyer points at a low cost.
We learnt about the Westpac KRIS FLYER credit card for making flights with Singapore Airlines.
We learnt how to avoid excessive credit card fees on overseas transactions.
Stay on board as the ideas keep coming and some are real corkers.

I hope to see you again as a special guest at other AFF events and maybe even some FT ones!

And I hope maybe we’ll see you posting again one day, under a different name :)

All the best.

P.S. Can I have your posts? ;)

Alan that is said to hear. Is this the eVip thread? I managed to read it and while it may not have been appropriate it did not deserve to be removed.

I hope you change your mind as your contribution to AFF has been vey valuable especially your tips and some of those great trip reports.

P.S. Can I have your posts? ;)
Stop it with this silly posts thing you have going. :p

Sad to see you go, but I doubt anyone here can change your mind.

Might see you again somewhere else. Thanks for the posts over the last 2 3/4 years.

Without knowing the nitty-gritty Alanslegal, I hope you reconsider.

If you don't then fair 'nuff, that's what you want, and all the best for the future!

Why was the thread closed Alan? I saw the thread but skipped over it the other day, l was in a rush and running late as it was. Harry Hindsight in full effect.
Can you please give details about the thread, l'm very curious as to why it was locked and taken off.

Please don't leave. As others have mentioned, a couple of "pot-holes" and "speed bumps" along the road shouldn't damped what you've accomplished on this forum so far. Everyone cops a serve every once in a while. Who cares, that's life.

Why was the thread closed Alan?

I Believe the post could have been considered (and evidently was) as a request as of a commercial nature (against the rules, a request for spare eVIPs) and was originally locked by a moderator as some of the responses were actually useful information in regards to eVIPs, which was when I last saw the thread.

It must have been deleted sometime later.

Seems somewhat of a major decision over one thread (which I cannot recall seeing).

Please stay.:(

Sorry to hear this mate... I appreciate your input over the years and you were very kind to send me a QP invitation when I was still silver. Hope you have a change of heart and stay around.

All the best.

Sorry to hear this.Dont let it get you down.Come on back.
By the way if there is something you want PM me.

The positives here far outweigh the negatives , so I also wish to encourage you to return. Your opinions have always been helpful.

One final appeal to Moderators to also get invloved in negotiating a dignified solution with Alanslegal.

One final appeal to Moderators to also get invloved in negotiating a dignified solution with Alanslegal.

The Moderators were simply following my instructions. We have a very clear and unambigious policy. Commercial posts (including request to purchase lounge passes or the like) are not permitted on AFF. Period. See
The Australian Frequent Flyer Online Community - FAQ: Posting Guidelines - What's not permitted
and
http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...ram/commercial-posts-not-permitted-17272.html

To be fair to ALL our members, we try to apply this policy as objectively and consistently as possible.

I'm not going to go into a a public discussion about the merits of this policy, other than saying that the last thing anybody wants is for AFF to morph into a "swop mart". There are plenty of sites which facilitate trading items such as lounge passes.

Like everyone else I am extremely sorry that Alanslegal has taken the decision to leave AFF, and have PMed him accordingly. But, at the end of the day, its a personal choice and I respect the decision he has made and his reasons for making that decision.

In consultation with Alanslegal, we have decided to lock this thread for the time being.
