We're very excited to welcome home #RetroRoo!

For the #avgeeks, the registration for this Boeing 737-800 aircraft is [-]VH-ZXP[/-] VH-XZP "James Strong", and the inaugural flight operated as QF6024.

Our 75th B737-800 is painted in a livery that graced our B747-200s and 747SPs between 1971 and 1984, and our B707s during the 1970s. A tribute to our Flying Kangaroo logo in its 70[SUP]th[/SUP] anniversary year, it also marks this week's 94[SUP]th[/SUP] birthday celebrations.

Today's flight is complete with the original Pucci uniforms as worn by our crew between 1974-85, and there's one other small detail for the occasion...

Gosh, looking at those pics took me back to when I was in junior school looking at planes from airport windows!

I think it looks great. A lot of modern design lacks individuality IMO.

Oh yes my good mates who were FA's during that time would walk into the bar sometimes just off a flight with uniforms on, 2 did near 30 years of international travel with Qantas, now I'm showing some age

We’re very proud to break with tradition to name this aircraft James Strong – another great leader of the Australian aviation industry.

"James Strong" the aircraft is wearing a signature bow tie in his honour.

I was lucky enough to be at SYD today to welcome "James Strong" the #RetroRoo.
We were picked up by bus and driven airside to the hangar. There was flashing lights and a DJ playing disco music to get us all in the mood. The retro theme continued with the catering : Waldorf Salad and Drumsticks.
As the aircraft was being towed in the tempo slowed as Martha Marlow sang "Feels Like Home".
AJ talked a bit about QF through the years and the Boeing Australia president Maureen Dougherty also spoke about her company's association with QF. The family of James Strong were presented with photos and the "Key" to the aircraft before AJ announced he had a little surprise for Mrs Strong. At this point the Bow Tie decal underneath the name was revealed to her, very cute moment
Some time afterwards for picture taking and then back on the buses to Qantas HQ.

Fantastic day, hope to fly on RetroRoo soon.
Rumour has it the first flight will be on Mon from BNE

I knew James professionally. When we last met we were talking about his upcoming role with cricket world cup and as that draws closer it reminds me how suddenly he passed.

yes a friend of mine who did several OS trips a year was impressed that he always caught the same aircraft called Longreach from SYD!

Looks awesome. I loved the old paint jobs. Shame the bottom isnt Polished steel like the 747s were, maybe not possible with the metals they use now?
