Return to Europe (in style)

For as long as I want it I guess, but folded back up on the top of descent "please prepare the cabin for landing".

It was rather firm. While I'm at it, no personal air vents, which seems characteristic of many suites, even though the ceiling isn't high over the chair/ head of bed.

There is a cupboard that takes a carry- on ( or two), hangs coat etc.

All in all pretty superb. I flew the old SQ suites once; can't remember too much but it would be hard to beat this. I'd put it above Etihad Apartment, as that was just plain hot and the bed hard. Emirates might nudge it out though, due to the bar and shower on EK.

Hard to beat SQ suites, it’s such a wonderful product!

Um, um, um ... I made no reflection on the dear 'Bogan', mearly pointing out that someone else previously had!

The AHEM comment came from the Gentlemen reference. 😉

Bogan Shiraz - separate and more a comment that it was a surprise to see it on an F menu. Sounds expensive and it wasn't!

It used to be more wonderful when they served more than three courses. Three courses, one of which is invariably a cheesecake, is like being on an episode of Dinner Date.

On daytime flights they normally ask if you’d like to try all 3 entrees (caviar, fish, soup) before the main course. On redeye however the meal is not so great, I get it most pax prefer to maximise sleep but they still should give similar meal selection as daytime as an option IMO since the ticket cost the same.

But, but, but, I'm of the gentleman persuasion!

When you go to the Flounge tonight they’ll most likely serve Taittinger Prelude. It’s nice but.. when I was there last week there were four three bottles of PH Rare left which they open only by special request. Try your luck ;)
I haven't worked out the lounge situation yet. Departing from T2 and the LX website if course isn't clear. But I can see myself in T3 Flounge, ask the question about TPR (it's LX operated but SQ code-share) and then moving on to T2 offerings.

I'm no Champagne afficianado, but I'm prepared to take one for the team

May end up begin a bit of Star Alliance premium lounge crawl.

Yes, they asked the question yesterday.

Don’t worry about the terminal you depart from (as long as it’s not T4). It’s easy to connect between terminals using the skytrain. When I flew to MEL last week the departure gate was C1 in T2. Took me few minutes to get there from TPR. So yea, don’t stress about departing from different terminal in Changi, it’s effortless.

Regarding the lounge, on paper you should have access to Flounge but since you came from SQ F and your itinerary is ticketed by SQ they might invite you to TPR but again, nothing to be stressed about it’s literally first world issues 😂

Do they still give you an invitation card to TPR on check-in? Obviously won’t get it with LX check in, but hopefully they will put SQ code on the BP.

If you go through the first class terminal they do.
You should probably go there anyway for the priority security. You’ll end up in front of the escalators to SQ lounges after passing security.

Arrived Changi T3 20 mins late due to waiting at SYD for other traffic. Smooth deplaning. New passport got rejected twice at the electronic gates, told to go to manual processing. OK on the second bank of eGates with manual guy to one side.

I had done the electronic arrival card thing, so not sure what was up there. By the way, are you definitely can do the arrival card on arrival - there are signs and forms on a bench and helpers to help you to fill out on the spot.

Bags took a while but then off to Crowne Plaza which was a bit of a hike, but on same level. Check in took a while, but was given 4pm late check out! Reaffirmed my standing request for a quiet room, and given a 'corner room'.

Jewel view, Pool view or Runway view?

You be the judge!

Not so much as a parked car in sight; but it was completely quiet, which was the main thing for me. They didn't mention upgrade on check-in, but I got an e-mail that I had been upgraded and it looks like I was !

Expensive, but good value to me.

How did you find the seat itself? Read a couple of times that it feels poorly designed and a bit weirdly positioned (staring across the hall for takeoff/landing?), so thoughts on that - and more generally, your thoughts on a seperate seat/bed combo?

Not understanding this. They have entry security? And I don't think I can check-in with LX at the FCT?

I found the seat fine. You actually are looking straight ahead on T/O and landing (its an electronic pre-set), rather than across the aisle and can also see the TV OK from that position. The TV starts flat against its wall but angles out electrically. You can see it OK when its not angled out. On landing, I still had mine angled out - not sure if that was an oversight or not.

There are lots of electric controls for the chair - I only reclined the back for a bit so I guess it was comfortable :) .

The bed/chair combo worked for me. When the bed is down, you still have room around the chair. Like the EY bed, I was surprised that they couldn't have made the cushioning a bit thicker, but it was fine.

One other thing. Like QF (al least pre covid) they have quite a heavy electronic controller mounted in a charging stand. Not very responsive and it took a while to get the hang of it.

Good NC headphones. I watched "Living" which has an unlikely storyline, but was very enjoyable.

How was bed in CP - I remember them being like morgue slabs

This was one of my reservations at staying here. I found the bed firm but not uncomfortable - like the Suites bed :)

Priority passport control 🛂

You didn't check in all the way to ZRH with BPs when in SYD? I thought you’re only after a cheeky TPR invitation ;)

I'm showing my inexperience with First Class travel! Not understanding any of this. I'll have to check-in with LX, T2. Can't see how to get myself to T3 to go through SQ priority passport control. Swiss doesn't use Jewel early check-in either, which is probably the biggest downer for me - its a late flight.

To be honest, I'm not really hanging out to get into TPR - I went to the old one a couple of times and yes, it was very nice, but the service was terrible! I'll go the new new one, and SQ First check-in, on my return trip. For now, I'll probably just go with the flow ...

All good mate, I assumed you got the LX BPs in SYD.
If not then you’ll need to check in at the LX counter but can still use priority passport control which leads you to SQ lounges. Regardless of the terminal you depart from I’m assuming LX will give you invitation to use SQ Flounge in T3. From there you take the skytrain to T2, it’s really no big deal.

The service at new TPR is super, particularly if Jason is there but the whole team is great 👍
