Thanks for the reply Kooky. At the end of next year I will probably spend four months in North America before touring in Europe and I was actually considering AA becuase I thought they had a better baggage policy. With work paying the excess baggage though, I think I will be flying BA and ship the rest as cargo. Its a bit tough for a longish flight to endure that sort of service.

AA does have a better baggage policy. 2 x 23Kg and there is a small surcharge of USD25 to increase to 32Kg per piece; so 2x32Kg will cost USD50 (AUD61) - this will allow you an extra 18Kg of luggage . If you want to also take a 3rd piece, that would cost an additional USD150 (AUD183) .
BA will limit you to 2x23Kg. If you wish to take more than that, then you will need to pay to take a 3rd piece of baggage; this will cost you GBP96 ( AUD230 ) - this will allow you an extra 23Kg of luggage

For about the same cost as an additional 23Kg on BA, you can take an additional 41Kg on AA

Having to endure a flight which requires paying for drinks is hardly that bad I would say. AA may be slightly worse than BA, but not that bad in economy. For business class travel, AA is pretty comfortable for a daytime flight whilst BA is better for the evil overnight transatlantic flights. If taking a train/tube to London on arrival, then AA arriving at T3 beats a T4 arrival

Ok, thanks Dave. I will no doubt have four bags minimum at 32kg so AA might be the option. The only other thing would be that AA connections out of Montreal require Chicago or NY to get to LHR so it means using another North America sector which are fairly valuable, even on a LONE4 because the prices out of Montreal are sky high.

No doubt this will be an issue you can all help me with when I start the planning at Christmas. ;)
