Planning a trip to Europe next year and currently amassing the points I need to book a business Reward seat, but while I was doing some absent-minded research I noticed something unexpected. I've got enough points at the moment for an economy seat to Singapore if paying the carrier charge/taxes, so 29k points plus $147, though not enough for the full points booking at 53,700. I went to check out with a test itinerary but it prevented me from going further saying I didn't have enough points to proceed, even though I would have enough for the points and cash fare. See below:

The question is, is this normal behaviour? If so, is there a way around it? I'm not going to have the 217k points required for a full points fare so I'm a touch concerned my entire plan is scuppered.

(Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, found it hard to know what to search the forum for.)

I suspect the issue is that you're not logged in, rather than logged in without enough points, given the heading. It isn't saying not enough points, but saying that you need to log in. It is correct that it will block you at that point if you haven't logged in.

I believe the wording is just clarifying that you need enough points to continue with booking as well.

I was originally going to mention that I was definitely logged in - because I 100% was, it had my name at the top right, and I'd just been in the account management page - but I've just gone back to the flight search and it's allowed me to proceed with a lower point total.

Strangest website behaviour, honestly. Thanks for the push to double check!

I have seen this behaviour before (your login credentials not carried over to the booking page). You may need to log out and log back it to rectify this, but it definitely should show you logged in before you can proceed.
