Reward seat withdrawn after being paid for

A big issue I see is Qantas does not operate to Tokyo. If they did, I wouldn't think it be too hard for them to release 2 revenue seats in J to fix this problem. A similar issue happened to me last week with EVA: they cancelled a connecting segment which made my trip to Seoul from LA impossible. Fortunately, Air Canada (which I used my Aeroplan points to book the ticket with), was able to open up a J seat for me to Seoul via Vancouver.

A big problem for most of us is that we can’t contact anyone in Qantas who is able or empowered to do this. We are effectively talking to the hand and there’s very little we can do about it, especially given that if we ever manage the Herculean task of finding someone who can fix it, we will have a new problem that needs fixing in a couple of weeks anyway.

Is long hold times still a thing? I ask because I called QF earlier today and got everything sorted in 8 minutes flat.

No - you can get through quickly but once you have an agent you are likely to have to hold for a long time for anything even slightly complicated - and assuming you are not Platinum you are likely to get hung up on and/or given promises that are not kept.

Of the overseas centres, South Africa is by far the least worst.

I thought there was a local QF number to ring in Tokyo. I know I called them a few years back to cancel a flight when we found a classic reward for the day we wanted. There was an English language option and from memory money was back very quickly.
Checked and it was in 2018 and I called +81368330700.

Update* - This has now been resolved by Qantas. I've dealt with helpful & friendly staff from Hobart.
I've been booked on Business class to Taipei, then economy class from Taipei to Tokyo.
The flight is with China Airlines & then Japan Airlines. As this contaminated the RTW ticket with a non one-world airline, Qantas capped the cost at 318,000 per person.
Overall I'm satisfied that it's been resolved and I can get on with planning the trip.
