Rex accuses Qantas of predatory behaviour, withdraws from routes

After announcing that they were considering legal action against QF for predatory actions, Rex has moved to appoint litigation law firm Clayton Utz to pursue all legal remedies...

Is Rex going to issue another media release after their first meeting with the law firm? Then another one when they file a lawsuit (if they ever do)? Then another when the court receives the lawsuit?

Honestly, Rex should be focusing on its grounded jet operation and looking after its staff, rather than trying to bash Qantas with the same old material at every opportunity. This constant whining from Rex is eye-rolling stuff.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next episode of this drama while I'm in lockdown - to be continued...

Rex Media Release: We detest that Qantas has stopped flying to many locations and blaming it on lockdowns. It's predatory behaviour purely to cut costs and has left people high and dry..... 😂

(clearly that's not an actual release... but you never know!)

The actual release is remarkable enough - it paints a picture of QF as the Darth Vader of airlines.
A scan of Qantas' own Facebook reveals over 1,300 postings by extremely frustrated and irate
Qantas passengers lambasting Qantas for employing all means fair or foul to delay or avoid
refunds. Many are still awaiting their refunds after a year. All 1,300 postings can be found at:
My brain has faded. Wasn't it Rex that was culling its own negative FB feedback?

This complaint is a goodie - I actually miss the WTB-SYD flights
Qantas has abandoned the Darling Downs, they said flights between Toowoomba(Wellcamp airport) & Sydney would restart in early April, we are now in June.
And Rex is nowhere much on that route, and never has been. They only fly subsidised routes out of WTB.

Cheers skip

Interested to see what legal remedies a private business has to prosecute conduct regulated by the ACCC. o_O

I'll just leave this here...

Directly from page 24 of today's Sydney Morning Herald's (in the business section).

It'll be very much pot calling kettle black when Rex has to stand down their own staff. It's also ironic that he's criticising state border closures/lockdowns but if neither occurred it's highly likely that COVID would be out of control hurting travel even more.

Rex is standing down staff. Crew were told earlier. And as far as I am aware, airline staff are non the wiser as to the details of the package anymore than when QF and VA did stand downs last week.

Wow just found that in the ASX release:

I think the most surprising thing is that they effectively did nothing at the start of the Sydney outbreak and I wonder if the other airlines were in a similar thought process. Quite amusing that Sharp called out others for "jumping the gun" but now they're saying they didn't act fast enough.

The other airlines were quicker to react, including by standing down workers sooner - something that Rex openly criticised them for at the time.

Surprised Rex hasn't issued a media release welcoming the ACCC's warning against QF and VA:

The ACCC will also be watching what Rex does as well.

REX half yearly results tomorrow, scheduled for midday AEDT but might get cut loose earlier. Should be interesting

That's the briefing time. Good on it for having an in-premises attendee option, not just a virtual meeting.

Most ASX-listed companies release such results to the market between 0830 and 1000 AEDT (or AEST in 'normal' time).
