Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

According to another board, VH-8ZL is rumoured to be the next unit to fly out of the country.

This one is ex-GOL and was involved in a taxiing collision with an Azul E190 in VCP in 2022. It was repaired and returned to service prior to its lease ending and subsequent transfer of lease to REX.

Rex accused of stealing planes from Arizona aircraft graveyard

The lawsuit, filed by American leasing company Jet Midwest, adds a twist to the regional carrier’s tortured demise. Rex entered administration in July.

"According to the court filings, Jet Midwest had agreed to sell Rex the aircraft in 2019 for $US2 million. The airline paid a $US200,000 deposit but did not pay the rest, requesting more time citing a loss of earnings during the COVID-19 pandemic.

But with no payment made by June 2020, Jet Midwest alleges the sale contract was void. Rex, however, still took the planes and disassembled them in October that year.

Jet Midwest is demanding Rex pay $US7.2 million ($10.78 million) and its legal costs."

"It claims, in filings with the court, that Rex asked 340 Aviation Services, the provider of spare parts, to “cut the wings off the airframes and to scrap the airframes”. The profits from the sale of those parts also went partly to Rex."

Some $$$ may also have come from the sale of the parts.

A reason to wrap up the company. Not necessarily the operations of the company, if someone is willing to take them on.

Whilst the CEO and some of his team may be complete a@@#les, that doesn't mean the pilots, cabin crew and front line staff supporting the Saab operations should be tarred with the same brush.

Don't get me wrong, I agree. Regional flying needs to continue and the frontline staff would be part of that with a new operator. The more that gets revealed, the more Rex stinks.
 
ASIC really should be going after LKH considering he's been hanging around NJE since his original company was sent into administration by the Private Equity co-owners.

PAG/REX/RQC/RQP/RYU all have registrations reserved in Guernsey, with RYU already deleted from the Australian register.

All five aircraft are leased from Castlelake.

Nothing unusual about that, a large chunk of VA aircraft went away for a few months registered in Guernsey, went for heavy maintenance, new contract signed a returned a few months later. Now I assume deregistering, sending away, perhaps also wipes the lessor of any potential lawsuits or financial obligations tied to the aircraft to the local market?

The Castlelake aircraft are almost a given, they are already a large VA partner, and the otter smaller lessors are not.

And RQP ended up in Jakarta, where there are MRO and paint facilities for that heavy maintenance to be done.

IIRC, all the Castlelake aircraft underwent maintenance and painting in Jakarta prior to delivery to Rex, so RQP is probably being prepared for its next operator (i.e. Virgin).
 
Good aircraft to get a handle on, the others with the BSI will be due for a D check in a couple of years, the Castlelake aircraft are now good to run having recently had those checks completed after the VA collapse. Likely will be disposed off at the next D check which would be early 2030s.
 
Certainly is super quiet in Rex land. The world has since moved on and the 737 operation is largely just a forgotten memory now.

Wonder if they are having issues sorting out what to do with the Saab operation.

VH-REX is also off to Lombok. Scheduled to depart later this morning and will presumably fly onwards to Jakarta to be prepped for (re)delivery to VA.
