Rex to fly between Australian capital cities

Sale fares from $79
Gee that's good value, $79........just a race to see if enough people get onboard & fly Rex to keep them financial or the alternative the race is lost & they bleed cash at a rate that the investor puts up the white flag.

I think we're good with VA, QF & JQ.

They will have to drop their pants quickly…

Rex is really coming after them….in addition to trying to get their unused slots in Sydney (in the media today / being discussed in another thread)
I really can’t see them making too much of a dent in VA but VA will have to probably offer a similar price in the short term.

No Loyalty program with Rex so many will give Rexy a go, but not permanent IMO.

It's a hit n giggles airline.
Launching "next year" IIRC.

If REX do get some international partners with codeshare deals such as UA (since the other two of the US3 are with QF and VA respectively) or any of the current Star/Skyteam Asian carriers that don't have a codeshare arrangement with any of the Aussie 'Big 2', then it'll be a start for them at least.

Official REX presser regarding BNE:

I had noticed that whenever REX starts a new route or destinations, they generally go "REX has partnered with (xyz) Airport" in the media release for lower/subsidised fees, etc. This was not the case for BNE today, so I'm speculating REX must've bit the bullet and agreed to whatever fees BAC had set them.

Only thing which may see VA stay at their current pricing is the fact that Rex are only offering 2 returns a day, whereas Brisbane-Melbourne is scheduled for hourly (give or take) at this point with VA.

Not a new partnership this time, it seems
[BAC} look forward to supporting these new services and building on the strong partnership that’s already developed between BAC and Rex Airlines
Yes, surely rexy is chewing on a diet of crow at the moment.

Cheers skip

Now Rex is back up time to fire up the old Expert Flyer!

Pretty ordinary day today. 60 bodies SYD-MEL and CBR this arvo.

Not much has changed.

Interestingly, the BAC CEO is quoted in the press release as saying:

“I congratulate John Sharp and the entire Rex team on today’s announcement and look forward to supporting these new services and building on the strong partnership that’s already developed between BAC and Rex Airlines.”

CEOs are often quoted. However normally the comms team of the said CEO writes them.

Oh I fully get that. Just found it interesting (although not surprising) that they're trying to paint a rosy picture about their "strong partnership" when in reality this is likely far from the truth.

VA have started to match the Rex fares on some dates. $79 for Economy Choice, $299 for Business.

They said they are also talking to Regional QLD and big centres.

I assume Cairns is coming up next. Historically normally a more premium priced Virgin route so I would welcome that.

However we are about to start the wet season so perhaps something like MCY in the meantime
