How was qf68? Agree the a333 ife is cough.... i didnt even use it. I love my note 10.1!

Compared to CX, IFE was ok (not the hardware but content - I normally prefer QF's content)
Food was good too (compared to CX).
Problem with QF J I think is their hard product... I really think these MK skybeds (1 or 2) can't compare to the new CX J. IMHO it is more crammed and less personal storage space. Plus it was a little inconvenient for the window passenger to get out to the ale.

Were PER-HKG loads really that low? it doesn't make sense given how important PER is as a mining corporate centre, growing rapidly, and HKG as Asia's premier financial centre (capital markets volume has already overtaken NYC, I believe). And CX run multiple services daily too.

I was a little surprised at the J load on the said flight, (can't speak for Y) but as someone said probably was trailing off until the shut the route. I booked this on a JASA and there was something like 7 x U availability at the time. Either loads were that bad for a computer mistake!

I guess if the route was money spinning, QF would have kept it - but their decision speaks for itself.

Hard to judge the route and its loads anytime recently as its winding down, hardly going to be a lot of marketing and other efforts to fill it...

Just because you have a flight doesn't mean people are going to jump on it...
* What was the quality of the plane compared to competition...
* What was the quality of the flight experience (food/service/IFE etc) compared to competition...
* How hard were they pushing the advantages of the the QFF program to try and get OW people or non aligned people to value flying on it (do they offer better points earn/burn than CX, BA etc)
* How hard were they marketing up in HKG and down here to public and business...
* How hard were they making sure it connected at good times to the rest of Asia and to Europe and was a 3 day a week service ever going to impress flyers enough to not go looking to competitors??

If all this has been going down hill for the last few years and the rest of Asia and now the ME carriers have been ramping things up well its no surprise that you end up with half filled planes... The fact they thought they could push us all on to Jetstar probably factored in there somewhere...

presumably some of the crew sadness would be due to Perth based cabin crew on international ops now being reallocated to the additional A330 services to Syd and MEL. Is that how it works?

I also am saddened by the fact that Perth has now been all but abandoned by QF. I think one of the main contributing factors was the poorly timed flights. PER -> HKG was a well-timed daytime flight on QF but the return was overnight and thus unsuitable for my requirements. QF 78 now gets in to Perth a little too late (23:20) for my liking, so cannot be utilized.

However, CX have the option of a daytime flight in both directions. I have used CX171 (arriving a little earlier at 22:35) on many occasions recently, often using my FF points to fly J class. And last month I tried their Premium Economy product.

I have my fingers crossed that CX retain their daytime flights in both directions.

Western Australians seem to me to be very well travelled, compared to our compatriots from the other side. Our friends and family in the Eastern States find Perth too far away to visit, but our WA family doesn’t bat an eyelid if travelling to the East Coast.

Our well-travelledness is backed up by the fact that other airlines have increased their flights to Perth. I wish these airlines every success.

If QF service was better on the PER-HKG route they might have faired better. CX is much better and the schedules are more friendly for business trips. Flying out of PER on CX on Sunday night, allows you to hit the ground running in China and Taiwan and not lose a day. QF's Monday morning flight means you lose a day. Also the the return schedules weren't frequent enough and hence I always flew CX in the end. The route was doomed years out in my opinion.
